its the white one, not my trials car...
the ad is as follows
It is with great regret that I am having to sell my trusty Skoda. I have another one I use for classic trials and I simply can’t afford to insure both. If I did not need the money I would not sell it.
It has a sound shell, and has had a recent home respray; there are a couple of drips, but nothing too major. The garage I use commentated that it was surprisingly sound. Underneath has surface rust but nothing too major (it can all be sorted with a day with a wirebrush and some undercoat!) Spare white paint is included!!! The blue front and back was done because the previous owner had to order more paint and was impatient so just painted the bits with what he had. I do not have the bumpers. An earlier grill has been fitted. The spotlights are not functional, but could be wired up if necessary. Uber sexy racing style wing mirrors have been fitted. Rustwise, the only panel that suffers is the front, but this is easily removable for spraying and the rust is only surface.
The engine is a later favourite (136) lump; polished and ported. It is a low mileage unit from a rear ended crashed car. Currently it breathes through a nice K & N filter and has a Weber carb but different Weber carb is included off a Cortina GT 2l. A Kent fast road cam was purchased but never fitted. This is available for an extra £50. The gearbox is the standard 5 speed. The car is manual choke but never fails to start. The car is very fun to drive being rear heavy. My mate who drove it prefers it to his 2.5 Vectra!!!!!
The interior is in good condition. The door panels are standard. An earlier dash with circular dials, retro fitted, has been fitted. This looks cooler. The gear stick has been cut down so it is very fun to drive. A small Mountey steering wheel has been fitted too. Carpets have been removed but there are mats bolted to the floor (!). There is also a standard radio cassette which works fine and does not chew up tapes, and a couple of fire extinguishers. When I bought the car, it did not have rear seats; I got some from the worlds scabbiest Skoda Estelle; no belts but they are easily removable.
It is currently fitted with the standard factory alloys with good tyres, but two other sets are included. A tidy set of Cosmics, similar to those fitted to imps and minis and another set of KNs, in need of refurbishment. Both are rare and could be sold on.
The car has been perfectly reliable; despite sniggers from my mates I love it. I regally commute to uni in it from Gloucestershire to Cardiff and would have no hesitation with using it everyday. It does take a bit of getting used to; my mum hates the gearbox. It has 4 months tax and 3 months MOT. Being pretty sound, it should pass the next one fairly easily. I can tax it for 12 months if you give me the dosh.
There are several other silly touches; the battery cut off switch (My neighbour commentated it was for when you crashed and the car was lying on its roof and you were dead!) the ironic quick release pins on the luggage compartment, the fire extinguishers etc.
I bought the car from my DT teacher at school. He and his family are the last 3 owners. It comes with a mountain of history and receipts. Also included is a Haynes manual and an original factory manual for the earlier Estelle. Both are very useful and I am sure will give the new owner many hours of happy reading.
A spare 136 engine is included, it looks sound and should something untoward happen I am sure it will be a valuable source of spares. I will also chuck in a pair of Four point harnesses which came with the car.
The number plate of this car is worth a pretty penny; F944 EGT is the right age for a Porsche 944 and ideal if your initials are EGT. I have never got this valued though. I have the V5C and it is transferable.
This car has given me many hours of pleasure. Some of the questions I get about it are comical; I have been asked once if it has NOS and also if it is turbocharged. You know it is a cool car when the kids down the local bus stop drinking cider with straws shout out “nice car mate!”
There is a Skoda Owners Club (http://www.skoda-owners-club.org/) the guys on the forum have always been very useful and give sound advice.
The one problem with the car is the exhaust; it is loud because the little pipe that comes from the silencer has fallen off. Ideally, the exhaust needs some form of bracketary holding it on. The exhaust could do with replacing really. One of my more crazy ideas was to use a micron motorcycle silencer. Maybe I should get out more….who knows.
The car is an ideal basis for a track car (imagine the big engine possibilities ! ) or rally car or just as a different first car.
