Due to the arrival of a new project (1979 Opel Rekord, I'm a sucker for punishment), my gold Rekord is up for sale.
If you were at the VBOA show at Billing last Saturday, you will have seen this very car in the Autobahnstomers club area.
Specifics - one of the first in the country (registered June 1978), Amber Gold with gold velour seats, one owner until November last year, 52,228 miles (at time of writing), near-concours condition (just a couple of touched-in stone chips and some underbonnet detailing letting it down). No rust or dents - and has never had any welding done. All-original down to dealer-scripted numberplates, apart from front valance repaint (professional) to cure 27 years of stone chipping. Chromework and rubberwork unblemished.
Photos are available here: www.photobox.co.uk/album/1189740. If you want any further pictures, please e-mail me and I'll be happy to give them to you - the originals are 1280 x 960, 3.2 megapixel JPGs (about 100k each).
2.0 cam-in-head (as Manta/Ascona) engine runs smoothly. 4 speed manual gearbox. Has incredibly detailed service history from previous owner - see here: freespace.virgin.net/r.welfare/opelhistory.html. Owners handbook, Haynes manual, manual for radio, original sales brochure and colour chart, even price list from dealer and 'How to sell the new Rekord' booklet given to the salesforce. Also contemporary car magazines with road tests of the car (Autocar, Practical Motorist etc). Two sets of keys on original dealer keyfobs.
Drives perfect, although heavy (non-PAS) steering comes as standard, and not a lot in the way of toys (AM/FM period radio/cassette, but that's it). Tyres all have good tread (including spare). New radiator (and coolant) last week (thanks to Billing autojumble); new brake fluid end April; full service carried out three months and 400 miles ago. New Bosch battery too.
The car has tax until end November and MOT until end October, but it is booked into my local garage (not a fast-fit ripoff merchant, somewhere in the sticks I trust implicitly) for a new MOT on Monday, so will be sold with 12 months' ticket.
Quite possibly the very best Rekord left in the country. Should stay that way thanks to regular Waxoyling and undersealing. Always garaged overnight. V5 is in my name. Only two owners from new. I've done just over 1000 miles in the last 8 months - it would have been more, but we had a lot of salt on the road round here over winter, so it stayed in the garage ;D
Price? I'm looking for around the £1,000 mark. Quite a lot for a non-sporty bloggo-manufacturer 70's motor but this reflects the condition (A+) and is only two-thirds of what similar-condition Ford Granada Mk2s or Cortina Mk4/5s seem to go for. Also a lot cheaper than the Buy It Now on that 1980 Jetta on eBay currently...I reckon this is in just as good nick too.
If you're interested, PM me, e-mail richard.welfare@ntlworld.com, or call 07984 527621. It will most likely be going onto eBay in a week or two, but I will post here before it does.
