Well, it got home safe and sound from Seaton to home (about 120 miles) on Sunday......well chuffed!
Been driving it all the time, it's such a cool car.
I'll get some more photos of it this weekend and post up.

I'm glad to hear your pleased with your new purchase Look forward to seeing some pictures. Theres something quite liberating driving around in a bargain motor - especially one that drives as nice as what a Scirocco does ;D

you lowered it yet? I've decided not to touch it really, just replace the dented wing, sort out the rust on the drivers door and possible repaint the wheels. I think it's going to be worth a lot more standard in 5 years time than it would be if I modified it.

i don't think he's on about making a profit on it... just in 5 years time it'll be worth more as "Scirocco - full service history, standard, one retro owner, nice drive" than it would be as "Scirocco - k&N, peco backbox, lowered 70mm, lexus lights....."
it's happening now with golfs. a late mk2 gti, in mint condition, still can get four figure prices. a modded one, unless it's got serious work (like a 1.8t in it) struggles to get much above £400. they just reek of boy racer and nobody wants to pay for someone else's taste.

TBH, I think it's like that with most cars, unless the mods have acquired mainstream acceptance (eg MGB & TR7 V8s, Fiat twin cam in a Moggy Minors, etc). Nice Scirrocco btw - looks great in white with all the black trim. IMO, the steels actually suit it

i getcha on the not making a profit point.....but....hes only lowering it 40mm....he can keep the original springs and replace them when he sells it....and he enjoys a better handling car in the meantime..... .....I'm not talking about 'boy racering it' ...you said that not me....i never stated peco, lexus etc... ....so surely iRocco has his cake and eats it?

yeah i suppose... i made the lexus lights and so on to make a point, a modification - unless it's a well known modification (like AmazonSprite says - TR7 v8s and so on) - will always make the car less valuable. it's even worse with 'new' retro when anything that isn't original is seen as a boy racer bolt-on. when i was selling my G40 i had one guy express disappointment at both the smoothed tailgate (only debadged - for rust reasons!) and the full blend supercharger ("well how long are they expected to last?"). A stock, all original, mint condition G40 goes for at least £3k... mine in OK condition with lowering springs, full stainless exhaust, uprated charger and a few other bits like panel filter went for £1300.... even a 40mm drop will put people off but keep the originals and everyone's happy, edible cake and all that

I agree with you not wanting to make any mods. I feel the same way with the capri. It cost me £1800 I figure that if I spend about £500 in general service work, waxoil and cosmetics then keep it garaged, wash it down after driving on salty roads etc, I might even make another £1000 on it in say 5 years.
I have other cars to "Play" with!!!!

The main reason for not lowering it is beacuse I had such a hassle selling my Mini because it was 'modified'. Agreed a 40mm drop will make a positive effect on the handling, but as the car is already quite low I'm not to sure will make that much of a difference for the type of driving I do in it. Not only that, but getting over speed bumps is already a bit of an issue at std ride height I only made the 5 year comment because by then it will probably be in the 100k miles mark which is still very low mileage for a by then 24 year old car. When I was looking for it I automatically excluded Scirocco's that had more than 110k miles - maybe people will do the same when mine is for sale. Not only this, but as I only paid £150 for it, therefore when I come to sell it in 5 years time completely standard I hope to make a bit of profit on it - more than I would if I went and spent £700 + more on modding it.

Seaton you say, just down the road from me, and the roads around there are fantastic for some retro foolery.
nice cars, wish I had kept mine and put the 16v engine in it really.

Had a look today on ebay, but not found anything like that Rang a guy who was breaking a blue GT2 to see if he had an indicator lense but he didn't! Parts I need: Drivers wing Passenger indicator lense Front bumper Fog light (lucas type mounted on front valance) And possibly a new interior.

I never have a car with a view to making a profit - I'm not having a pop at people who do... that's up to them, but the way I see it I don't want to avoid modding a car the way I like it incase someone else doesn't like it. For me, I wouldn't care if my Merc was worth £50 by the time I've done the mods, as the enjoyment I get out of it can't be bought Very nice Rocco BTW - I can understand how you'd be cautious about messing with a minter! If you keep the original parts though, stuff can always be put back! ;D
