Does anyone know where I could buy some new number plates that have the older-style wider letters, rather than the latest narrow ones that we've had for a couple of years now?
I reckon they look more in keeping with a retro motor, and mine need changing!
Cheers, Ben

Legally there's no chance of getting any, as number plate suppliers are only allowed to sell the newer style for the road and they must have the suppliers postcode and british standard mark, you could try here though, they should be able to sort you out www.ccmotorsport.co.uk/plate-shop.htm

As far as I know, when the new legislation came in that meant you had to produce driving licence, V5 etc, they also scrapped most of the old number plate machines, meaning that any new plates made have to have that sh!tty modern font . However, there may be some older style plates still made, as I can't see the guys at motor museums and the like having to have those w@nk new plates on a classic! It is really annoying and I'm sure it's got something to do with the automatic plate recognition systems the Police use to f*ck over us motorists. I've seen the black and silver (pre 73) plates made at motor shows and stuff - dunno if they also make old style reflectives too...

there is a company near me that does graphix for cars, they can also do any type of no plate as they can print anything so try some where like that as opposed to just garages that do everything by the book

I know of a place still selling the old type. They cunningly state on the reciept that their not for road use. The plod can only enforce the new plate law on new cars anyway. If your cars a few years old how do they know when your plates were made.
