right guys, I'm putting the engine back together on my bus.whats the best way of getting the oil where it needs to be around the engine so as not to cause undue wear. i would turn the engine over with a spanner a few times. does anyone know of a better/easier way to do it. cheers in advance for any suggestions.

I would fill the oil filter before fitting it (if practical - not sure which way up it's mounted) ..... hang on does it have a filter or just a strainer..... excuse my air cooled VW ignorance , and spin it over with the plugs out in short bursts until the oil light goes out.

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Sounds sensible to me! Not an expert on VW engines at all but it does sound like the thing to do on many engines, sure yours is the same.

Fill it up with oil a few ins before you start turning it over so the oils running through the engine and not all sat in the sump.
