Maybe Bangle doesn't exist at all... I heard that BMW recently bought an ex-KGB secret project in which they were training a group of chimpanzees to design Ukrainian residential tower blocks. After the fall of the wall, the fully-trained chimps had nowhere to go so the Russian scientists sold them to the West.
I have a real hankering after a shark-nosed 5-series. They look hard as nails!

been meaning to tell you all about an E30 in my town. 3DR, with BBS rims, not sure what engine. Also had chrome trim around the wheel arches. Cool i thought, he is gonna make it retro. Next thing i know he has a twin pipe exhaust HANGING down from the back of the car. Not neatly installed which would of looked really nice, but HANGING down! Saw it today, came upto a round about, and as it pulled away you could hear it dragging on the floor, then it feel off- completely! He then stopped, picked it up and put it in his boot- was really funny Apart from this example- they are quite nice cars i reckon.

Just a shame so few tourer's were well spec'd from the showroom Most had nasty squashy seats rather than the recaro type. A 2.7 Alpina tourer would be the nuts, though!

Nope, I'm of the opinion that they've taken to blindfolding Chris Bangle while he works, which is why none of the lines of his latest creations never seem to line up and the panels all seem to look like they came off of various different cars (bootlids especially), but the older BMWs, E30s in particular, are great, always had a soft spot for the E30, and lately the've stopped being associated with Glasgow drug dealers, since they all moved onto newer BMWs! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D All the pimps and drug dealers are now driving around in the E36 3 Series. Unlike NickB I rather like the E36 - so long as its packing 6 cylinders under the bonnet. I reckon the shape is still sharp and purposeful. When they emerge from their current image crisis as the E30 seems to have, perhaps we'll look at them in a different light...... maybe?

I gave up and finally looked up some info on Chris Bangle. If you think his "move" will help, think again. Among the Top Gear articles, the petitions and the diatribes from some of the pundits and enthusiasts I came up with this: forums.autoweek.com/thread.jspa?forumID=13&threadID=12042&tstart=0Personally, the new designs look like the face of a Rendevous stuck onto an Altima. Me, I like the black wagon myself. ;D

Yes, but Bangle was still responsible for steering the design direction towards the current look, even if it was other designers who were actually responsible for implementing it (they just design what they are told to design). Ultimately, the final designs still require his approval.

Since Bangle has a number of people working under him, maybe they all design a panel each, without being allowed to see what each other's panel looks like, until they put them all together?! That would explain why new BMW bootlids seem like they're off a different car! ;D ;D ;D ;D

i have big respect for e30. 325i is dogs bits. e30 m3 looked sexy and different to rest of range. after e30 all 3's look too similar. anyway. any of you boys discovered italian spec 320is yet. i'm sure some of you have but if you haven't you ought to look into them. they are basically an m3 e30 in an mtec normal shell. only 2.0 for taxation purposes but it is the 2.3 engine with a different crank. seriously wicked four pot 2 litre. cheap as chips and nobody has a clue how good a car you've got. i haven't owned one but i've thrashed two and they are nearly as good as m3 but for a fifth of the money.

This is for sale near my parents house in Ipswich... it's on a H plate(1990) and the guy wants £2500 apart from that I don't know anything else about it except I think the same guy had a Zetec Mk2 escort a while back that was pretty special.

MOGGY- The 320iS would be cool, but for two reasons.... 1. They only came in LHD flavour 2. They're rare as hens teeth in the UK. That said, there is a dealer in Norfolk who specialises in them. That said, I quite fancy the idea of converting my 318iS to 320iS power (194 bhp instead of 138 - JOY!!). I've made a few enquiries re. costs to see if its do-able. Am awaiting a reply and will keep you all posted!

hotwire is correct. putting 320is engine in 318 is almost impossible. by my understanding its due to a conflict between steering and exhaust. anyway why is being left hand drive a problem, within 100 miles of trying to drive lhd you're used to it. specialist in norfolk you mention owned one of the 320is's i have thrashed. a mate of mine is a mate of his.
senario. tell missus having a romantic holiday for two in italy, get one way tickets, spend holiday looking at 320is's that are for sale, purchase one, drive home, sorted. ear ache well worth it considering what you can buy for 1k or under. minters are a little more but not much.
