I now have the donor car for my turbo conversion on the 16v, it is a Rover 820 Sport.
Since starting out on the project many mooons ago, I wanted to put a limited slip diff into the car but finding one in an axle for a good price is hard.
Has anyone got some advice? Ideally I need a Quaife ATB Diff that will go streight into my rebuilt casing but thease are 500 + VAT new...
My backup is a dolomite or TR7 4 speed axle with a second hand unit fitted.. Gold dust I am sure.
Using an Escort axle would work so thats another line to go down.
My final thaught would be somthing from a caterham 7 as thease used the marina axle back in the 70's and a lot of kits used them also..
Can anybody point me in the right direction?

I'm sure the ford route would be easiest although probably not the cheapest !! (ps: you got a new or good steering rack ben ? I'm steering through toffee at the mo... might just be the bushes mind... ill whip her off at the w/end )

Yeah I think you could be right. I could get a good 2.8 capri axle cheap but then it would be sticking out about 10 inches either side of the car!
Steering racks are not a problem. I can get them for £40 including track rod ends (exchange)

Sticking with the Marina axle may end up being the cheapest in the long run, at least you wont have to get involved in custom brackets, shaft altering etc... Your Marina project sounds the nuts, proper q-car material

Thanks! It's a real street sleeper! I lov it!
I have been researching the various axles to day that could be possible:
MGB V8 axle: Very expensive Rover SD1 Axle: Would need shortening.. MGC Axle: Veeery expensive
Now after a few searches I found out that the width of the 2.8 capri (Like my own one) is "52. The marina axle is "48, so my origional calculation was wrong! Only "4 longer, thats "2 inches per side!!!! So with this in mind i contacted a firm (Very helpful guys up in tyne and wear) that build/recondition atlas axles for use in Mk2 escorts! They can rebuild me a complete axle with LSD for £500!!! This would include half shafts and mounting points (So long as the shafts did not need shortening)
JOB DONE!!

if you can get hold of a baby atlas axles out of a mk1 capri these are only 50" wide. There are still a few kicking around but have a tendency to be a bit more expensive. One problem with the atlas is that its a hell of a lot heavier than what you have now (thats why they used marina axles in caterhams) My mates just been getting an LSD for his marina axled caterham and had been on the phone to caterham about it, they are only rated to 150bhp try putting down more than that in anger and they snap driveshafts. It is possible to get uprated driveshafts for them but how expensive I don't know. His diff was a plate type as opposed to the atb type and cost him around £450 brand new

Thanks for that. To be honest I want to do the conversion on a budget for now, at least this way I can get the car up and running again for under a grand. The extra weight at the back would be an advantage. I can suck it and see. I'm not going for a fast 0-60 + the Marina with the T series in will be lighter than the Capri and it's V6 so Power to weight would be increased i think...

I fugging love Marinas me. I used to drive em all the time, my ex-brother in law spent ages rebuilding one with a 2.0 rover SD1 lump and 5-speed box, twin carbs, lightened flywheel, tubular manifold etc, he had lever arms and telescopics AND motorbike coilovers on the front, a mega rollcage and a pneumatically-operated pushbutton clutch!!! What a fearsome beast! ridiculous!

Gawd! That must have been one seriously stiff Marina! I got the SD1 engine in my Ital estate, it's quick but can't quite cope with the corners!!
The Coupe on the other hand will, I've redesigned the front suspension using a custom built lower wishbone arm that is fully ajustable to suit your drive and the rear is now going to be based on the 2.8i Capri so not much work at all!...
If you want a cheap Marina estate then just ask! Mine is now reduced!
