Cool! Best FWD Escort I suppose... Although the adverts used to launch them - "The champ is back" - wasn't entirely accurate ;D ;D ;D I went through a phase of wanting a 4x4 RS2000 but bought the Golf instead

Escy does have the drop on me as it's much more heavily modified than my motor! That said I usually make quite a good effort to keep up. Outta the box there would be little between these cars in terms of speed and bhp. The escort's engine responds much better to tuning than the M42 in mine... At least I get the fun of power-sliding round junctions and out of roundabouts, while Rob has to cling on as the Escy understeers!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Bah Mk4 Escort... boooooring Your e30 could use a fair bit of lowering on those 17" Alpina Softlines though. I never liked the Mk4 Escort's front end. It needs a grille...

Your e30 could use a fair bit of lowering on those 17" Alpina Softlines though. True. But I need to find a kit that will not make it too harsh. I've heard good things about the H&R kits. But they sure as hell aren't cheap thought!

bm wins hands down. any true driving enthusiast would rather tackle a back road in e30 325, than a shopping trolley mk5 esc with a big engine. i know esc rs2 goes well, but it just ain't a drivers car. even if this esc is modded and quicker, the bm would still make me smile more on a b road. rwd rocks. fwd is just too easy and squishy.

Our New England roads have pot holes big enough to swallow a car. I live around Salem and we have ALOT of cobblestone streets. My e30 with H&R Sport Springs and Bilstein Sport Dampers are rather forgiving.

Our New England roads have pot holes big enough to swallow a car. I live around Salem and we have ALOT of cobblestone streets. My e30 with H&R Sport Springs and Bilstein Sport Dampers are rather forgiving. A lot of older towns in Scotland have bits of cobblestones still in them as well, much of Greenock's older parts of the town centre have cobbles and the're not too bad in my current Imp but their spine destroying in anything too stiffly sprung! ;D ;D ;D. That and Renfrewshire and Inverclyde councils seem to ignore potholes, anyone who'se taken the M8 into Greenock and headed west through the town will know exactly what I'm talking about, there are a few near the west end that I avoid like the plague because I'm sure they could easily catch and damage my Imp's little 13x7 Wellers easily, or even much bigger wheels come to mention it, they look like bloody bomb craters yet the council does curse word all to stop them! ;D ;D If we're talking about suspension then I've no idea what works on a BMW, but I've had spax adjustable shock absorbers on Imps before and they're pretty good, and I've had Koni springs and shockers recommended to me before.

Hey, that Escy looks like mine... if you squint, take away the rust, add a decent engine (mmmm, Kent...mmmm, clatter), take away two doors and add decnt rims. Oh and mine's clarent red metallic.
Anyone want it for £150?
No?
Me neither....

Just cos something is good for you doesn't mean its good for everyone - for example Marmite does not make good Dog Food.

the other this is, I run on 15s with 205/50/15 tires... so I have a bit of sidewall to eat the MAJOR bumps... with 17s, you wouldn't be so lucky. Maybe get an adjustable damper and dial down the bound/compression.
