... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

I know the feeling well! It gets to the point where I'd rather leave panels and paint where they are so as not to see the rust! I force myself to uncover it though... it's the only way really isn't it? It's times like that I really start thinking "What am I doing? I'm supposed to enjoy this sort of stuff!!"

My mainly stipped Imp that's being reshelled gradually has "Scrap me please!" written in the dust! ;D ;D ;D Seriously though, that's pretty grim, hope your welding gear's in good health! ;D ;D ;D Nah, it'll be alright, I've had Imps in worse nick, of course Imps have heater pipes and wiring going through the sills, so there's another kind of sill related disaster waiting to happen, my current Imp (the brown one) came to me after a pair of (awful looking but sound) rear arches and sills put on it, and with the temperature guage not working and problems charging. It also had new heater hoses. A bit of digging up revealed why... He managed to somehow melt the heater hoses while he was doing the welding, and, wait for it... Welded part of the temperature guage to the sill and probably broken it as well explaining why the guage doesn't work. No kidding! It's still in there, I had to put a different wire through the car in a different place (too hard to get a single wire up the sill, so it's currently runnin gthrough the inside of the cabin hidden by the roof lining, down the A pillar and into the dashboard to meet the guage, but I'll sort something permanant out.) Next time I see the car's last owner I'm going to smack him one for the job he done! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

A bit of grinding, some fabbing, some welding... sorted. I've seen much worse (the old P6 for example).

I have not done a full body up restoration for 2 years now and to say the least i am glad. The BGT was a complete nightmare and not to say the Bloody Mice would just not leave it alone.
However I say i don't miss it, I have just Rolled the Midget out of the storgae container where she has been for 2 years, I was worried that the small patches of rust were worse than i orignally thought, Chufffed i was to notice that most of it is surface not bad considering she was my daily driver for 4 years.
My heart goes out to u mate know how you feel but just think of the outcome ;D
