Ok, still got the datsun 100a up for sale. If it doesn't sell do I break it up for spares or sell the engine and fit something a bit pokier. The body needs work so I may as well strengthen it whilst I'm at it. If I do change the motor what to fit, i had thought k-series or maybe keep it in the family with a nissan unit? I'm not after anything too mental just something cheap and easy. Any suggestions? No rush though, still got to put the vespa back together and then start on the beetle or maybe build that trike I've been dreaming of. (probably none of the above, just sit on my and drink homebrew) T

The A12 1171cc lumps goes straight in with no mods - it goes pretty well considering. You'd be lucky to find one in a scrappy though, but you'll find an engine from someone in the datsun club. The A14 1397cc or maybe even a A15. Ratdat got a 1.5 in his 100A F10..... I plan to keep my A12 alive by installing a janspeed period manifold which is patiently waiting for the light..... These guys are good for advice, the datsun 1200 has the A12, but its not transverse like the cherry. www.datsun1200.comNot many people in the UK modify them, but europeans do silly things to them.... www.datsuncherry.ch/english.htm

I'd definitely keep it, and stick a Nissan lump in there. Not too genned up on engines from the land of the rising sun, but what about something like a 1.6 from a Bluebird? You could pick a whole car up for about £50! I don't know anything about the type of engine it has - it could be a pile of poo and there are better choices! But yeah, if it were me I'd keep it and mod it!

definately thinking of keeping it now ! Datsuncherry, liked the look of the links you posted. Hadn't thought about bluebirds, there are certainly plenty about. Maybe a micra/sunny motor would fit ?

Yes keep it and mod it, the 1.3l 16v valve engine from the K11 micra might be worth looking at, these seem very strong and a 100bhp is very achievable from a few bolt on parts, spend a bit more money 120-130 is very realistic n/a. They also have the advantage of being light.

I agree 108% with RM! don't pull it to bits. bosh a modern 1.3 16v Micra Super S engine or something in it. You'll never need to open the bonnet after that, dead zippy and not nose heavy or torque-steery. lovely.
LOVE that blue one above.

Ok then, looks like I'm keeping it! Thanks for all the advice. I'll keep it up for sale until I've finished the beetle and if I've still got then it I'll sort it out. So, anybody after a used 100a engine then? Not sure of the condition but not seized, speedo says 64673. If your interested make me an offer and I'll try and get it out. Time to start planning......... T

CHERRY TURBO! Now thats a kwality motorised toilet cistern which I would love to own, (though not as much as a pizza-powered Cherry Europe Gti). Do any still exist? In 'standard' condition? If i remember rightly they have 'TURBO' written across the chairs.

There are a few cherry turbos still left, in fact i know of one that’s having its internals transplanted in a k10 micra next week quite a few seem to live in australia: www.n12turbo.com/cars/cam/cam.htm

Man. Is it rotten as a pear? I hope so otherwise I would start wanting the shell. What engine would go in it? I'm thinking something like a Nissan Sunny ZX coupe could donate its 16V engine to allow the ugly cherry to live on.
