That's a good price! I might try them for a set of springs for the 115. I think that the springs require a special Mercedes tool to compress them, as the claws on normal spring compressors don't go between the coils.... I could be wrong as I havent worked on the W123 suspension before. There are other, more unorthodox methods though - ya just have to be a bit careful! ;D

Are they custom-made? If so how did you know what free length/spring rate to go for?

Nah, easy peasy to lower a w123. Must have done 5 or 6 of the buggers now. What's all this buying new springs nonsense? Use a grinder - two and a half coils off the front, two coils on the rear - always cut from the top of the coil. Afternoons work. Slammed 123. Nice.
I used to use normal coil compressors, but be careful, as it gets a little tight under there.
Best way (in my humble experience) to get the front ones out is to put car on axle stands (safety first you understand) then pull coil in as far as safe with the comressors. With a trolley jack under and supporting the lower wishbone and almost taking weight of car, pop the lower ball joint, then very carefully lower the jack, until the spring falls out.
I cheat on the rears - just cut the lower bump stops off with a grinder (and weld it back on later), then drop the trailing arm down enough to pull coil out. No coil compressors are needed. You don't need to remove the driveshafts, but just undo the 13mm bolt on the centre of the hub, so the draftshaft can pull out a bit, allowing the trailing arm to push down further.
Loves a w123 on the floor...
Oh yeah, if you go v.low, make a sump guard, as the sump is cast ally, and it's pretty much an engine out job to replace it!

I had the same trouble with my w115 - couldn't get the wishbone to drop far enough down. I think the set-up is pretty much the same as the W123, so I might try that! I don't mind the rake I have at the moment but sometimes I do get the feeling that the back end should come down to match the front.
