The clutch went on the tango 131 yesterday on the way to work.Managed to get through all the traffic lights at green and stay in third gear without stopping. Got to work, took the car round to the local garage just around the corner after mi mate picked up a new clutch out of the spares stockpile at home.Got it up on the ramp, propshaft off, gearbox out,new clutch in and back together. All in 45 minutes. It cost me £30! Try that with a modern car! Mechanic said "The last clutch i changed took 8 hours!" Yer just cant get anything better than a simple retrocar!

When the gearbox went on My ital at uni, I rounded up some lads from the weightlifting club to tip the car on its side in the uni car park. I put a couple of car wheels under the rain gutters to stop the door skins getting crunched. Me and a mate took the box out and did the clutch before tipping it back onto its wheels and driving home. I lost a few drops of brake fluid but the job was a piece of cake.

Ya can't beat an old RWD motor for that sort of thing. I hate working on FWD cars!

Sadly, changing the clutch on the Zs is a real pig. In fact every single engine job bar changing the spark plugs is an engine out operation. This makes the clutch a very expensive item, infact the manual recommends eight hours (spooky, maybe that mechanic was working on a ZS)
Theis means that once the engine comes out it's best to do everything, head gasket, etc etc.
