Had a trip here last weekend, mainly to visit the Porsche and Mercedes museums. Really brill!
The Porsche museum is fairly small, with only about 20 cars on display, but pure quality! They rotate the exhibits fairly regularly, but they had the first 356 on display, with a later 356B used by the Stuttgart police and an example of an early 911, which I much prefer to the overblown supercars they produce now.
Also saw some Porsche Formula 1 and Indy car entries, as well as several Le Mans cars from the last 30 years.
The Merc museum is something else again - there must be approx 80 cars here. The S and SSK series from the 20s and the 500 Ks from the 30s are just awesome for the time. The famous Silver Arrows racers are also well represented. Some beautiful cars from early in the last century before Daimler and Benz merged as well.
The Museum is to be relocated to new premises just outside the main works in time for the World Cup next year. (The timing is significant as it is right next the Gottlieb Daimler stadium - one of the grounds to be used)
Can recommend a visit to anyone interested in Porsche or Merc or cars in general (I'm more of an Alfa fan but had a great time). Got a return flight from Manchester with Hapag Lloyd express (lovely aircrew!!) for £42 - bargain!
