My tax ran out on the 28th on the pug, how many days have i got to get it before i get in trouble? the post offices are all shut now!

When you fill out the form for a new disc, I think you just tick the box to say you haven`t used it when there is a gap between the old disc finishing and the new one starting.

14 days, I phoned the DVLA at the end of January to ask this as I knew I couldnt get the tax for my polo in time, I asked if I needed to SORN it just for one day and the lady on the other end of the phone said... "the computer doesnt check until 14 days after the tax is ment to be taken out" if still no record of tax or SORNed after the 14 days then the fine is sent out, so you should be ok.
Keep if off the road for now if you can thoug, and although I kind of trust the lady at the other end you could check with the DVLA as well

You get no period of good grace sometimes. A few years back I was fined £30 for not having current road tax. I had owned the car for aproximately 17 minutes and had parked it outside the post office & gone inside to get a disc. Came out to find a curse word traffic warden giving me a ticket.  What a See You Next Tuesday! |

Got it now, went rhough the thomson local and found a local post office, wish it was pre-73 though, I'm £60 down, lol.

What a See You Next Tuesday! i think it might work differently now though, because it all changed last year and they made everything computerised and so now fines issues automatically and centrally. I'm not if that means a warden wouldnt ticket you though. |
