yeah... I've seen Celicas of that shape here and stuff, just not with that headlamp treatment... Actually, looking again I think it's just the angle of the photo *blush* I thought the headlamps/grille were different!

TA22's (and TA20,21,RA20's etc up to 22) had the angled corner lights, depending on the spec level they were either park lights or indicators (same applies for the other early celica's)
later model T/RA23's had the straight up and down corner lights along with a longer and wider engine bay and a bigger front track width. although there were cosmetic difference's they were the same as the TA22's from the firewall back (although early TA22's had the fuel tank under the floor and later car's had it behind the rear seats)
the RA28's (hatch's) were based on the RA23, exactly the same from the front of the car to the rear of the doors except the curvature of the roof and the window glass. behind this point none of the coupe's parts are interchangable.
the american (Canada as well??? not sure)release cars missed out on the smiley chrome bumpers that the rest of the world got because of impact standards. they got large ugly (IMO) bumpers with big springs inside.
there were other models but these are the more common cars seen outside of japan and most of the other differences aren't that big (one of the early hatch's had the TA22 front end but they are VERY rare).
all of the cars had twin front headlights although i've seen models with large rectangle headlights. i don't think these ever made it to production.
cheers Matt

Actually, IMO with regard to the early Celicas some of the JDM cars had some quite horrid light/grille combinations...as did the US.

...still on the subject of early Celicas, a couple of mates discovered the virtues of the Fastback GT versions (2.0 Twin Cam , twin solex 45s as standard) when they were at their most unwanted...Hytesta has just emailed me this pic of our mate PJs old one:
