Right, done a couple of things to the car. De-bumpered, fresh headlights and silver front indicators, BBS's with cut slicks, sticker number plate. Need to get another matching track tyre - got three off eBay for 50 quid which had done only a little mileage, so need to find somewhere that sells Maxsport track tyres, then I can fit the second pair of BBS's. Might have a go at bonding the rubber boot spoiler on today. Not too keen on the all red rear lights - I rushed them a bit so not perfect. Need to find a mint O/S one to add to the NOS N/S one i've got, then i'll fit them instead. Once i've polished the bodywork, i'll refit the side trim with new clips. Need to remove the side stripes too, which is gonna be a pain. Then I think it'll be the 285mm brakes, new poly-bushed wishbones and the TAS coilovers with spherical bearing top mounts (say goodbye to the ride quality ). More pics to follow. Any thoughts?

What ya going to do with the gaping hole where the front bumper was? Panel it over? Mesh grille? Think it would look great with a plate over it then big hole cut in with silver sprayed mesh grille ;D All looks good

I'm actually gonna open out the other recesses at the front so that there are lots of gaping holes, add some more underneath them, and then stuff an intercooler between the front panel and radiator. Will look OK once a spoiler is added.

Hi. Been away for a bit, so thought it was time for an update. Started by stripping the interior: Then it went off to have the cage done: Engine has gone away to be built. 1.8 8V G60 block with new pistons (1.9l), lightened and balanced crank and flywheel, Schrick baffled sump, ported and flowed crossflow head with bigger exhaust valves and a special cam, T3 turbo with Turbo Technics manifold, modified SAAB intercooler, cable box with Peloquin diff, 280 brakes and other odds and sods: Should be getting the engine back soon, and need to get the gearbox rebuilt - a mechanic friend has kindly offered to help me fit the diff. Once the engine and gearbox are fitted it should be going back to have a few more bars added to the cage, and a new front crossmember made up and the spare wheel well plated over. Also having the intercooler ends modded, by removing the plastic ends and replacing them with welded aluminium ones so i can choose where the inlet/outlets are. Also not decided whether to fit a JAZ fuel cell i picked up or not. Also need to paint the inside, but waiting for the weather to get better so i can work on it. I'll post some more pics when i've done a bit more

I think it'll be a while till its finished - its stuck on the street at the moment under a cover as i've no drive or garage to work on it - luckily its an unadopted road so can get away with it being there As the weather has been so curse word recently, not been able to do anything to it, which is a bit frustrating as things were starting to move forwards at last. I very much doubt it'll be on the road this year, but we'll wait and see. I'm not in too much of a rush, and there are sooo many things to be done, its a bit overwhelming at times, so try not to think about it too much... Also been sorting a new daily driver out which has been taking up my time (another Vento) and the other Mk1 (red one) hasn't received any attention at all over winter, so need to decide what i'm doing with that too. I'll get there slowly...

I'm leaning more towards a sleeper look to be honest, so will probably look a lot like that one anyway ;D I've gotta squeeze these under the arches tho: Although might use these alloys instead: Currently being refurbed, along with some other alloys: Only 6 inch wide though. Got a few tyres collected through various means, on the cheap: I picked up a full MK1 BBS bodykit last week at a show, but dunno if it'll fit or look right. I'll have a play sometime and see how it looks. Still not 100% on the boot spoiler i fitted. Think it looks ok: And got a couple of NOS rear lights off the bay, so will fit them instead of the DIY all-red ones. Hopefully should look ok when its finished.

Cant help thinking that wide 14"s would look best, but then you'd probably want bigger wheels to put the power down

Thanks chaps. I can see how 14's would look cool, but got loads of 15inch tyres and wheels to go on it, so bit late to start all over again now!!! And got 285mm brakes to go on it. Just spent the day digging out the side garden, so I can get the car off the road and work on it - filled 3 trailers full of soil and probably the same plus more to go, plus a couple of trees to remove, then gotta level and flag it all...why do i bother Woody - thanks for the comment - ur cars mental, was looking at it at Ultimate Dubs I've got some really nice 14's to go on the red one for this year, currently being refurbed with the other 4 sets.... Its currently parked at my mums, not done anything with it for months. I did consider selling it, but doubt i'd get much for it, and its so much fun to drive i don't wanna let it go. I'll prob slap a couple of NOS wings on it, remove some of the stickers and go back to black and silver plates, and use it over the summer again. Alloys prior to refurbing: Should look like this when i get em back: As well as the ATSs which are being done with black centres and diamond cut rims, the BBSs are being done with GOLD centres and diamond cut rims, the Estorils are being done with black inlays and the rest diamond cut, and also got these rare Borbets being done in a black chrome finish: If the engine is ready, i'll be doing another round trip to Hemel Hempstead and Kent again to pick all the alloys and the engine up, hopefully end of next week. I took 12 sets of alloys down in total - five sets were mine and the rest belong to mates and mates of mates

I hope you got a good deal on the polishing! I paid £170 for 4...twelve sets at that price would be over two grand!

Cheers Dan,Ultimate-dubs was a good show, should be bigger next year hopefully. What car did you go up in? Why don't you enter the red jetta into 'The Undesirables' at GTI International this year,I'll be there with the polo.Hopefully the new venue will be an improvement over Ipswich. Theres a small pic of a mk2 jetta in custom car this month,a mental gullwing doored lowrider at the oakland roadster show in america.Theres also a stunning Ford Falcon gasser on the cover,
i think a mk1 jetta done in the same style would blow peoples minds at the shows!

It should look quite good on the new 14's as they seem to have quite a low offset, so added to the suspension drop its already got, they should fill the arches nicely I might wind the rear up a little, as i rekon the nose down stance is the way to go this year ;D I'm also following the same route with the new Vento, as i have done with the current one which must be at least 60mm lower at the front and 40 at the rear. It doesnt like speedhumps anyway........ We've got a good deal on the alloys - they have taken a few weeks to get done, but they always do a great job, and have done them for trade price plus a little discount on top too
