Iv not been on the board much recently as ive been busy sorting it all out and just generally been depressed. so how did i do it? in the most stupid pathetic way in the world. in some stop start traffic taking my brother to work a min from my house i was talking to him (my brother) and glanced away as you do, for the slightest of split seconds. we were doing about 10 - 15 mph in 1st gear and the guy in front slammed his brakes on for no apparent reason, as i glanced back it was too late i was about 6" off his bumper so i braked but it was wet and went into him. all the rallys ive been doing and i generally drive it flat out and sideways everywhere and have never put a scrach on it. I'm kicking myself (to death) so stupid. the day before it happened; The damage; i still cant belive it. the question now it, and i really want everyones advise, do i repair it ( it needs wings and a front pannel but you cannot get them any where) or do i brake it for parts and but something else. the dilemma is there is prob only a few hundered quid between what its worth as a car and what i could get for the bits ( there is a lot of rocking hore poo stuff on it) this means ill now miss having it on show at the Swansea vintage motor show at Singleton park that all my mates were going to, at least 4 rallys and i might even miss retro cars as I'm not going to be back from uni till mid june. if anyone knows of any places for panels as ive looked everywhere please let me know. any advice would be gratfully recieved.

Bad luck mate I had the same thing a few years ago when I had my XR4X4. Dodderer at a roundabout.
Have a look en local ad mags or on ebay you often see rot box chevettes going for less than a £100. The front ends are normally still pretty good it seems to be sills and floors that are the worst areas.
Whereabouts you located?

Bad news, unlucky!
I think your best bet would be to find another Chevette and transfer the parts across.

curse word, that was one of my favourite cars on here.
well now youve beat yourself over it. get over it and think positively.. now is time for a change, or it gives you chance to get a new shell or something.
don't kick yourself too much everyone has or will do that at some point.

Oh man, sorry to hear that. I did a similar thing in the Benz last October - wasn't concentrating and just sailed into the back of some fool who braked at the roundabout . I kicked the sh!t outta myself for that one too! In my opinion the damage don't look that bad - as long as the inner wings are still straight I reckon it'd make more sense to transfer the front end panels from another one onto yours, as I'm guessing the rest of your shell is rust free. There was one down at my scrappy (Nottingham) if you want me to whip the front-end panels off for ya I can, next time I'm down there!

curse word Feel for you I say rebuild or get another one and transferr parts. Or strip it down find somewhere to keep the parts and wait until tiime and another really good one comes up. You won't find a lot of the rarer parts you have now in the future.

Bloody hell!!!!!!!!
Dude, you have to get it sorted, either by new panels or a re shell, it's such a cool car, you can't let it die

Sorry to hear about that mate, unlucky. Its ironic but it always works out that no matter what kind of crazy stuff you get up to in your car, its always the most trivial of mistakes that ends up costing you the most. I used to take so many chances in my first car, but I wrote it off at about 15mph on the way to work one morning before I'd even turned off my street. I'd say your best bet was if its totally beyond repair, strip it and keep all the bits and scrap the bare shell. I've thrown so much stuff away over the years then hated myself for it a few years later. By the looks of it you've already got shuv it no.2 lined up anyway.

Thanks for all your nice comments its made me feel a better already! the damage is only cosmetic an the inner wings a a little tiny bit rippleed but nothing that wouldnt bash straight. if I'm going to do anything I'm going to put a new front end on this shell as its mint. i dunno though should i get something completely different, i goe my new student loan in a week or so nad ive been working nights at ASDA (read hell) so icould prob raise £2000. if not it has to be done by retro cars i wanted it on the retro rides stand there so much! Hey benz boy thanks so much for the offer, next time your down there have a look and let me know what state the front ends in! if its sound that would be quality. thanks so much.

dude, bummer!! definately get it sorted... you could break it for parts and flog 'em off but your car is one of a kind, it needs resurrecting. i know how you feel... only ever had two prangs in 8 years of driving and they were both sub-2mph moments of not paying attention. but you've done your feeling daft so look positive and make your car great again! trailer it to RCS and we'll all pitch in, someone can bring a welder, i'll bring a grinder, anyone got a generator? we'll have it sorted in a day
