quick update. I managed to get a good few hours on the spit this weekend. managed to get the front suspension and wheels back on. with the gaz coilovers with the spring spacer take out it sit "low" at the front ( well, low for spitfire anyway so low in fact that on the drivers side the 185/70/13 tyre on a 5.5x13" alloy is hard up against the wheelarch. the 185 tyre is too big on the front but is being replaced with some 175/50 's as I have some already (tyre side wall will go from 129mm to 87mm, for extra drop). steering rack is back on, painted up and solid mounted with new TRE's. have also just waiting to arrive:- isuzu trooper starter motor which is the same as the "high torque" race ones that go for a zillion pounds. this cost £45 delivered new. just have to get the spit mounting plate skimmed of 3mm and it bolts startight on next up, got this new off the mini forum. was destined for some R1 carbs, but will go nice on my twin su's. new and uncut £56 delivered:- will take some more pics of the car after work....

front balloons being swapped for pirelli 175/50/13's tomorrow, courtesy of a mobile fitter rubbing?.................only a bit, but there is plenty of scope to "massage" arch lip. i have also acquird a 1" lowering block for the back,. so will have to see what that does to the back (again the ballons are quite close the arch lip).

todays post work progress. go new front tyres fitted and wheels bolted up. sorted out bolting up steering column to the rack, nipped up the TRE's the brake caliper bolts and the driver side wheel bearing castle nut oh, and bolted on the passenger side wheel (no pic tho) its rather low at the front but I like the "fill" of the arches - just right must sort out the rear camber about an inch between the floor and the rollbar clamp @ss up, nose down the crusty arches are worst on the drivers side. after welding them up, i'll prolly roll the rear arches as the 185 tyres will catch in i lower the rear. i have got hold of a 1" lowering block for back cos i jacked the back up to chnage the rear wheel, it hasn't settled yet. ;D

just been reflecting on the new look of the spit with the new tyres on. I can't get over how low it is at the front.
the top of the headlamps are level with my knees, the top of the door glass is level with my hip (i'm 6ft). its lower than my old mini. ;D

I would raise the front a bit mate, else you'll struggle to get anwhere. I dropped mine and then lifted it again (coilovers) as she's kept catching on every dip in the road. just my 2p worth, ignore me if you like. where did you get the front drop links from? would be nice not to worry about greasing up trunions all the time, lol!

Man i have a lowering kit on the GT6 and it hits everything - next to no clearance at the back and i once got lost in a pot-hole for 14 years. Low is cool but so is driveable! I can touch the ground when my arm is out the drivers window! I cant get into the underground carpark at work cos it bottoms out!!!

Its great fun being low, don't get me wrong but when I scrape getting off my own drive and scuff on every bump in the road it's just unkool

(I just registered to ask this!)
What became of the Lenham top that was fitted on it in the first few pictures? I'm thinking about buying a spitfire for my first car, and I'd really love to source one of those or similar, but I've no real idea how easy to find they'd be, only that they exist.

GTVsaviour - replied to you PM - cheers for heads up RE: the GT6 rims - they are just taking up space so happy to sell on. I have 5 in total BTW on another note, I do actually have an update. I managed to source a mk2 hood frame, which are like hens teeth to acquire. was on ebay and nobody bid, so got it for £10. ;D the going rate at triumph specialists is around £100 the mk2 hood does not fold flat/isn't hinged ::)so when you drop the hood back, the frame has to slide oput as one piece and be stored in the boot. the mk3 ones were more like modern style fold away soft tops
