Chassis notched for seat rail?! That's completely mental! Loving all of the fabrication on this car, top quality, but this thing is so over-built you could fill it with gold bullion. Hang on... lads, I think I've got an idea!

Hey man, amazing that you read my comment so quickly! Obviously I couldn't say for sure because I haven't done the calculations on it, but the chassis just looks like a huge amount of steel for such a relatively light load. I know that it's got a V8 and airbags and all the rest of it, but at the end of the day it's still a fairly small, light car. That chassis looks absolutely bombproof! But, in any case, my comment wasn't that serious, as you can tell by the gold bullion joke (as in The Italian Job).
One thing I would like to know actually is what the seating position will be like. Obviously with the seat rails down that low you're putting the seats on the floor, which will mean your legs have to go straight forward like in an open wheeler. Should enhance the feeling of go-kart speed even more than a normal mini!

waveman. well maybe you wouldnt want to get run over by it,lol. if this was a full body,d car sizes would have been totally different but there is no strenght to the body on this. could of gone 80 x 40 for the main rails but went 100 x 50 because the exhaust silencers are 75 diameter.that way they sit inside the rails allowing clearance plus just enough room for brackets.outriggers ect are smaller but had to again allow room for air tanks to go in without being damaged when the car sits down on the floor. lots of the framing tubework is only 1mm wall thickness.some is 2mm or 3mm depending on what its there for.maybe not as heavy as it looks. even different thicknesses on the tubular control arms.4mm for the adjustable ones as its the perfect size for running a tap up.smaller again for the fixed ones. rollover loop in screen frame is 4mm. if i could of got a larger diameter tube in it would have been thinner, but it has to do the job its designed for. seats.seat mounting is determined by owner sitting in it for position. with the screen raked back the opening is now smaller looking out.thats why its been sunk into the chassis rail. could of mounted them on top.lot easier but then the driver would be looking at the top of the screen and not through it. those rails for the seat sit 60mm of the floor when dumped. i didnt do the calculations either.just had a good guess ;D ;D. maybe you need a trip over here and drive on our roads.youre understand a little better why maybe we over engineer stuff wayne

maybe you need a trip over here and drive on our roads.youre understand a little better why maybe we over engineer stuff wayne Have you SEEN an Australian road?! Lol, I'm pretty sure they are a lot worse than whatever you have in the UK, in Adelaide where I live even fairly major roads often have some decent potholes and bumps in them. No billiard-table American roads for us here! Fair enough though, I was generally assuming that all the RHS would be 3mm wall thickness or thereabouts. If you've got space for a bigger cross section and smaller wall thickness then that is always a good option to keep the strength/weight ratio up. And of course being too strong is always safer than being too weak. Keep up the good work!

Hi, Nice build, you are much better build than me. I bet you don't have to go back and repair what you have done 2 years ago.... . After seeing you build for first time, I did think about not posting my build. But, your build is on near pro end and mine in trying hard side. When is your dead line? Will it be London2Brighton run this year? I hope your customer will show it in Mini shows! Cheers Atchi

Building roof chopped, screen raked '68 Mini with G13B 1.3 16v Gti engine with LSD, Yamaha R1 carbs. As well as mk1 Suzuki Swift Gti AWD with a turbo. Drives PHEV Outlander but wishing my mk1 Swift Gti or mk2 CRX Vt were still with me!

been waiting for a few bits back so havnt really done much on this recently. anyways at last most of the bits are back from the machine shop. steering was always going to be an issue on this car.if it had normal coil over shocks i could off got away with using a normal column. having airbags ,meant it had to be done differently. the solution, hopefully. steering box thingy mounted how the tops linked up to the shorty column. and where it comes out by the front wheel. and another toy I'm playing with when not working on the mini
