1988 Mk1 Caddy - adaptormans turbo project ....

hi all ,as the t5 bugs slowly takeing shape ,and awaiting parts etc ,,ive had another powerplant idea ,so I went searching for more rust lol ,and found this little beauty ,,,sat in a farmers feild for 7 years rotting away,with nice green mold ,as it was been used as a gate post ...i thought I have to have it ,,,here it is,

few bits of rust here and there ,,,

gave it a wash to see
but I carnt imgine driveing a 1.6 deisal ,,oil burner around ,thats getting ripped out


I thought erm another sleeper ,let go engine conversion hunting ,and I'm useing this

a mk3 vr6 ,yes I know it wont bolt in ,and its heavy engine ,
so ive decided to upgradge to this set up
a nice 6speed gearbox from a golf 4 motion vr6 ,mounted nicely onto the std vr6 12valve engine ,

then thought erm I need a better rear set up so bought ,a complete 4wd 4motion back axle to modify


I needed the clutch assembly as well

then thought we need p from this engine and the only way is to ,turbo the engine ,quick mock up how the box and turbo fit before I strip the engine down

,right they fit ,
engine strip down time
as I know this engine will take 420bhp from the std rods ,thats what I'm aiming for,,
so head job first

all new guids,head skim,and new high lift cams fitted

next the engine block
pistons out

block rehond

thought chuf it ill skim the pistons down ,

new chains and guilds i think is a good option

then i don't like the std vr6 manifold as i think it will act as a heat sink
so time to make a intake short runner



tube in place and weld it up


made a quick thotle body adaptor



sorted
and fits too ,


couple of pipes welded on

then made a quick manifold guard to cover the exhaust intake up

made my own turbo spec ,if I say it used to be of a canbine harvister ,,don't laugh ,i had to alter the out take too


had to make my own custom head spacer too lol

rebuilt the bottem end useing a r32 crank shell mains custom rods,and shaved pistons ,so should be a nice stroker ,as well as the 6speed o2m 4x4 gearbox too


made a short shifter too for quick gearchange


looking ok I reckon ,that gearbox will hold 500bhp without any probs too,thats the engine sorted

gave the rocker oil filter and alti a quick clean up/alterd the plug leads

next modify this rear axle its too wide


plenty of weld/amps on the go I don't want these snapping off lol


just check its right width

spot on for I reckon lol
next anti roll bar ,i thought instead of cutting it ,ill bend it to suit ,as it should help on conering



sorted and a quick idea with the caddy tailgate in place

next I'm going to cut modify the driveshafts ,then start on the engine cradle

cool replys guys ,i like to think of my own little ideas ,,and something a little differnt ,
made a turbo return pipe ,another quicky,,,,
,had to weld it in 5 places to get it right

lo, thats my daily run around and yet thats modifyed too ,has a nice 3.0v6 quad ,a couple of pics here ,
it would be for sale at the right price
