The B20 have a lot of potential, A group of friends of mine have the world's fastest B20, with 750hp/750nm @ 700rpm and 1.7 bar sounds awesome! Jens' doesn't have the title of world's fastest b20 anymore? doninphi: i bought the rollbar from a local guy... came out of his SCCA ITB car. it's made by a company called Kirk Racing Products, here in the US. the fit is ok... could be a bit tighter to the car... but it'll do the job nicely.

Jens' doesn't have the title of world's fastest b20 anymore? Nope, his b20 is now the second fastest B20 But keep up the good work, it's fun people in the US don't always go for american iron

oh, i go for american iron, too just really old stuff. have a 1931 model A coupe in a million pieces, with a caddy V8 in as many pieces. there's quite a few fast Volvos here in the US... mostly regional... here in the pacific north west part of the country in particular. not many built B20s, though... i regularly lurk on savarturbo.se... seemingly lots of B20s there. love these stout little motors. planning / gathering parts for another b20 to eventually replace this one. another 6 bolt, long H-beam rods, short skirt forged mahle pistons, volvo F cam, bigger valves and a lot of porting.... oh, and a clutch that'll hold. guessing the M40 trans will be the first thing to break, after that

dug out a set of wheels for it... old school slot mags in 14x7 and 14x8. lack of wide rubber for 14" wheels means it'll be getting 195/60/14... welded in the 'bar, too... not too much longer now... can't wait to get it back on the road...

it's interesting what can/can't be done easily in other countries. here, because of the age of the vehicle, i can do practically anything i want with it, without interference by the government or such... as long as it's something that doesn't look like an absolute menace to others on the road (even that is questionable). no vehicle inspections for a car this age, in my area... that makes me damn happy my chevrolet suburban, 1994, just needs a "smog check" every 2 years. they basically stick a sniffer in the exhaust, have you idle the car, then run it at ~2500rpm for 30 seconds. if the gasses its emitting are under a maximum allowed value, you're good to go. if not... gotta fix it, or no more registration... meaning it can't be driven or parked on any road until it is fixed and registered.

Nice build!

haven't gotten much done, been sick as a dog for the past few days. got a burst of energy and managed to get the back seat, back seatbelts and driver's seat in... i did not fully appreciate just how difficult the rear seat area would be to actually enter, as a grown adult. i'm a slim fellow, and it was rather like a bit of contortion. the main reason it's there is for child seats... my 5 year old loves riding in the car, and i wouldn't have it any other way. my nearing 2 year old has never been in it as of yet... but i can see no reason why to do him that injustice much further. PLUS... i plan on this being my daily again, once sorted... not the easiest thing to capture with a cell phone camera, I might add the front seats will do for now.... though I pine for some proper retro Corbeau Classics... (or something similar). never see them used around here... never really see vintage race seats, either. seems everybody has moved on to something modern/safe/comfortable... or they're boy racers who get the cheap made-in-china seats i'd not have mine enemy sit upon for fear of an undeserving agonizing death should (when) it breaks. for front 'belts... i've never actually had any in this car. i've a set of two RCI 4 point harnesses that'll go in. They're of questionable legality here on the street, but better than nothing.

each day it gets a bit closer: headliner done: took a beat up old grille and spent some time with some hammers and dollys... too much time... but it looks damn good now: both sets of wheels: Compomotive 16x8 et -60 rear, 15x7 et -14 front... 3 piece splits: where are the lug holes, you might ask? there aren't any yet. they're pin-drive wheels... which luckily can be drilled for my PCD. US Indy Mags from 1968... 14x8 rear, 14x7 front: not sure which set of wheels it'll get... maybe both eventually. got some 1000cc injectors. the plan is to run E85 + a sheeeeetload of boost. got some alloy stock that's used for fuel rails... a bit of time machining and we've got a proper fuel rail to hold modern injectors on the ancient motor: move the battery to the trunk (no room left under the hood for anything ):

What happened to the modified steel wheel idea? -Steve abandoned the idea mostly due to time, I suppose. started seeming like another project in itself. I cut apart one stock wheel. could only find one place that has barrells of the right size to fit the stock center... plus they cost way more $ than I initially thought... then I came up with the slot mags for $30 at a local swap meet. $30 for the set. couldn't pass it up. only big catch is finding 14" performance tires. and already have the compomotives & I can't think of anything else they would fit...

I had mercenary reasons for wanting you to do it. I wanted to see how you did it and learn to widen/band some steelies for the 242. -Steve

I had mercenary reasons for wanting you to do it. I wanted to see how you did it and learn to widen/band some steelies for the 242. -Steve I had planned on cutting the centers out of the stock wheels and putting them into new shells... Diamond wheels makes a 16" shell (barrel) with an ID of 13.390"... The stock 140 15" wheel centers have an OD of 13.290"... So it'd not be too difficult to make them into wide 16s. I'm not sure if anyone has 15" shells with that ID. The stock 14" 240 steel wheels have a center with an OD of 12.25"... Couldn't find anyone who had a shell to suit. Making them into 15s would be nice, though. edit: just heard from Marsh racing wheels... has 15" shells with a 13.25" ID. they'd be perfect for making 120/140 wheels wider. damn brain... thinking about it now.
