1972 Volvo 142: huge turbo, coming together

Compression ratio is 8.7:1 in this motor.
I'm building another with tougher rods and 8.2:1 cr...hoping for over 400hp on E85 with that one.

I was OK with the paint as is for a while.... but it got kinda old.
the rust started sprouting up, as well.
Its going to be the same yellow, just rather flat.

car runs/drives again. everything works as it should. i ended up pulling every single wire out of the car and starting over... much better now.

some more pics to follow, but right now i'm sitting at work trying to convince myself to work rather than go for a drive. i'm not doing well with that... think i'm just gonna go drive somewhere

You might consider putting a tube of some sort around the wiring in the wing, as it`ll get punished pretty bad by gravel and stuff coming from the wheels. Unless you`re running plastic inner wings like i have on mine

i've been thinking about that... ABS plastic inner wings are on the list. as it sits now, mud/snow/grime all builds up in that area. when i pulled the fender off, kilos of dried mud and wasp nest fell out.

i've got the ECU out again; something's amiss in it... gets the occasional miss after an abrupt left turn... the miss continues until i unplug a coil then plug it back in. weird.

the winter took its toll on the car this year. it went from having literally no rust to a hole in a quarter panel and lots of surface rust coming though the worst areas of the paint. think i'm going to hit the car with a DA sander, follow it with some metal prep, etching primer & epoxy primer... try to buy some time before mother nature consumes the car.

the car is kinda a piece of curse word... but i like it.

i sorted the ignition missing issue; some ham fisted fool fooked a solder joint in the ECU. that'd be me. fixed now.

decided that the stripped bare interior sucks on the street. i'm too old. my kids are too young. figured it'd be more pleasant/fun to drive if my fillings weren't rattled out and my ears weren't ringing. enter sound deadening...



so far its just the firewall and trans tunnel. it's a product that's vaguely similar to dynamat... but way cheaper, lighter weight, and not quite AS effective. still does a treat of a job quieting a cabin. peel-n-seal.
it's a bitumen backed with a heavy foil, typically used for building roofing as an underlayment. 2 layers of that plus a layer of 1/8" dense foam with a heavy foil backing. holds up extremely well.
