Sort of OT, but as eBay is an R-R award winning site I thought it was pertenant...
a chap on another forum has sold an item, the buyer has paypalled the money and it coming to pick it up.
However Paypal have sent this email to the seller:
And he has checked its genuine. The same message comes up if he goes though his Paypal transaction details.
So Paypal now expect you to send the goods without getting the payment. All the buyer has to do is false neg you and you'll never get the money.
what rampant turd.
car boot sale FTW....

Yep, that's pretty much the size of it. I had these when I flogged some wheels recently. Real PITA. Also gets slapped on if some knob-end tries to claim an unrecieved item (which they seemed to have forgotten that they had signed for - dimwits!)
Moral of this is not to accept paypal for large sums, at all. Cash rooles. Or failing that, bank to bank transfer is pretty dang easy these days.
Oddly though, Paypal still tell you NOT to post if you get a crummy e-cheque, the total opposite of their above policy.
I had a right rant at Paypal over all this the other day on the phone and got NOWHERE. However I have found that eBay themselves have really pulled their customer support socks up - if you are a 'valued customer' you get a customer services phone number to call, any hitch you call, they sort and usually toss you some bonus vouchers too. Which is jolly nice.

How do I get to be a "valued customer" then? I have been on there for nearly 10 bloomin years. I used to love paypal, especially when I did a lot of business selling to the US, but I'm getting less fond of it now.

Don't know, I don't think I can divulge the number to mortals either - if a pleb rings they'll just hang up.
I assume I got the 'priviledge' by having 1000+ feedbacks.
Paypal does remain handy for the overseas chaps, I'll agree with that. I reckon a good 25% of what I sell goes overseas, so it makes life easier, though the fees are a bit of a rip.

compared to the fees your bank charges on stuff like Australian dollar money orders, Canadian bankers drafts, American Casher Checks paypal is freedomz
I will have to work harder. I only have like 780 feedback in like 10 years LOL. I'll wait for the call when I hit the thousand.

pre-paypal I had to bank a lot of US money orders.
Canadian money orders where the gibbots made them out in US dollars were the worst as the bank did USD -> canadian$ -> canadian$ -> sterling conversion on those and I often ended up seeing like £3 out of a £50 sale on those. Really tried to get it through to Canadian buyers to pay in either canadian $ or GBP but they just loved f**king me about.

I think it is.
I have made it clear when selling cars etc or other high value stuff that PayPal is not accepted. Not had an auction cancelled for it.
Tick the box under "payment types accepted" to be "see item description" and without it turning into a rant about paypal (which may increase your chances of a auction deletion) I put:
Payment accepted = cash on collection ONLY.
If i'm feeling flexible I might add: Personal cheque drawn on a UK highstreet bank is possible but must clear before car/item is collected/couriered.
there used to be a "payment on collection only" box to tick, it was still there but still added the Paypal logos and stuff last time I tried it.
