A member off the Omoc had his car stolen, please keep your eyes peeled
2 guys with an beavertail turned up 28/11 ,broke in and just hauled it away. Spoke to neighbour who witnessed the car being loaded. Went at 10am on Fri, but the only desc we got was a very clean, white "B" reg beavertail. Two males,1 tall guy lots of hair and called himself Colin.
Spoke with a another neighbour who spotted them, and she told me they said I had phoned them to ask them to take it away.As the keys were obviously not in the car they wanted to break in,but the neighbour told them it was best to wait until i got home. Once she left for work though it seems they just took it any way. Car is an 1800 Hatch, red in colour. Fitted with Gte side skirts, black rubbing strips and a quad conversion. Recaro badged Gte seats and trim. Only has Manta and 1.8s badges in black on the tailgate.
Cops think it's gonna be broken for bits,as there's not many manta's around and it would soon sound alarm bells if it turned up for sale whole.

Unbelievably, this car has now been recovered after being advertised on ebay.

Unbelieveable.
Fantastic news. Was it spotted by the owner? You'd have given up looking at nearly a year later.

It was spotted by another OMOC member who put a link to the auction on the club site in case anyone was interested in the car. The owner followed the link and recognised it. Not sure of the full story but I think it was the guy who lifted it who was selling it. He said he'd had a call asking him to take the car away, but didn't still have a note of the number he was called from.
The car has sustained some damage while it's been in the yard for a year, but the owner is glad to get it back.

I bet!! Taken the guy a year to sell sounds very dodgy to me, if it was legit it would have been crushed after a short period.

just read the omoc thread, brilliant news that he got the car back. I had a similar experiance with a bike years ago.In my case thou the police kept it in a stolen recovery compound for weeks without telling me after they had caught scum on it, then I had to pay to get it back.

Sounds like the scrappy who took it had been conned into taking it after someone rang up pretending to be the cars owner.
I know of another scrappy who took away and crushed a metro after the owners neighbour got fed up of it blocking his drive. Apparently it then got reported stolen and the scrappy had to buy the metros real owner a new car!

I had a Rover 827 Vitesse 'lifted' from a public car park just over a year a go. Someone saw it happen but just assumed it was a legit' recovery going on. Cops told me that they had 11 similar thefts reported in just over a week and that the problem was on the odd occasion when the scrappies had been queried by a passer by they just told them that the car had broken down and they were recovering it and taking it to the garage for repair on behalf of the owner. When I asked them what they were doing about it I just got lectured about....... resources.... blah blah blah..... priorities ...... blah blah blah. No surprise the car was never found!!
