Sorry to buck the trend, but I think it is a waste for any reasonably servicable car to be destroyed, especially if it's an old one. They don't make Marinas anymore, even if it was knackered it could have donated some bits to keep the rest of the pool going, if it's burned out it's useless.
Fair enough about "it's just a car" and "they should do what they like with it, it's theirs" but I reckon owning an old/rare car comes with a bit of responsibility and it's up to you to put the effort in, that includes not deliberately destroying it. If you're not a big Marina fan, imagine if it was a classic you were particularly fond of on the show, I doubt people here would be going "but they can do what they like so good on them" if it was a nice MK1 Golf GTi or something.

Actually, you can. A Seller can add any legal terms he wants to a contract for sale of his car. You will likely reduce the pool of Buyers substantially by doing so. However, here's a typical example in the field of highly collectible, super-high cost cars: First right of refusal upon resale. This is not unusual in trading between collectors of significant mega cars, and terms of such covenants are negotiated as part of the sale. All the time, mate. [pedantmode]Not once it's sold you don't, mate. Whilst your selling it is a different matter altogether dude [/pedantmode] <Captain Obvious Mode> Aye. <Captain Obvious Mode> ;D ;D ;D

Soz! Agreed. Although it wasn't burnt out, I quite enjoyed the Finnish episode when James May was blezzing around in that Amazon.

I don't care really. As much as I love cars, it's no worse than someone breaking a Marina up, or those enthusiasts that would have scrapped many an example in the past. On that Marina forum rant post, someone said 'why couldn't it have been a Morris Minor?' - just shows a Marina tunnel vision attitude. No one obviously bought it from the forum, so that's probably why the vendor put it on eBay.

Top Gear is still one of the best shows on TV.......

Has a Beige Morris Marina ever caused this much upset and conflict before! Don't remember this much upset when the Arctic Monkeys set an 1972 Marina TC on fire in there Fluorescent Adolescent video at the end. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=N64QMKEbJQg

I doubt people here would be going "but they can do what they like so good on them" if it was a nice MK1 Golf GTi or something. Soz! I think they would be even MORE likely to say that if it was a Mk1 Golf GTi... or do OJC now have the total monopoly on liking unloved old cars?? Frankly if you sell a car you loose all right to tell someone what to do with it. If I build a hot rod from a Ford Pop and someone buys it and returns it to stock, thats no longer my car, I sold it... if someone buys the same Pop and seperates it for parts then so be,.. if they buy the same pop and crash it on the way home, so be it,... if they buy it and smash it up on telly, then... guess what,.. so be it.. Not my car, I chose to sell it. No one has a moral obligation to do anything with old cars, otherwise we'd not be modifying them, or racing them, or restoring them (there are people that believe old cars shouldn't be "restored" asuch).

if that chap does make a complaint, then clarkson will just make a sarcastic apology on the show. like when he apologised about driving over some heather in scotland when he drove that discovery up that mountain.

If the previous owner liked the car so much, why did he sell it? And why did he choose to sell it blindly on eBay to the highest bidder, whoever that may be? Doesn't sound like he liked the car *that* much.

Seriously those guys need to get a grip, After all once a car is purchased the owner can do what they like with it with in the law so smashing it up and burning it on private ground is up to the bbc.
And fast marina magazine? never a bigger contradiction.

I'm quite surprised that here I am on Retro Rides [the forum that apparantly realises that everything has potential] reading posts mocking Morris Marinas and their owners. What's so funny about fast Marinas? Does nobody here on Retro Rides have a fast curse word car? I thought Retro Rides was better than that TBH.
I'm very enthusiastic about Skodas, to the point of obsession. They are curse word too. Am I to be mocked on here? Carry on if you like!
Wether or not you're going to mock me, I'm not ashamed to say that I'm really peed off with Top Gear at the moment.

Well I read through that Marina site and it appears the one that was set on fire was a shonky copy version of the beige one. It was made of rust, originally blue and rejected by a banger racer as being too unstable. So I guess, they just ruined a really, really bad car instead of a bad one. ;D

Yeah it's a shame. Like it would be with any older car. I was slightly miffed my self when they rolled that Sierra estate (although it was very impressive)
But such is life and such is top gear! LIke said many times above, If u love it that much, don't sell it, and if u do, don't ebay it!
At the end of the day, They destroyed it instantly. But it's not really anyworse than selling a car to someone who don't look after it and lets it rot away slowly or thrash it into an early grave. Or to someone who's idea of "modifications" Differ somewhat to your own. I once sold a blue mk2 fiesta to a lad, Saw it two weeks later, BIG BLUE rally flaps, "skirts" and 3 spoke alloys! OMG but hey, it's his car! lol
