Hi Chaps, Been lurking on the forums for quite some time now looking at the great projects you guys have on the go but up to now haven't had anything interesting to put up as the daily is a "modern." (Not that I have the ability to build anything anywhere near as good as the projects on here) Anyway I have just got myself a new project car in the shape of a rather sorry looking 205 1.9GTI. Only the one (not very good) pic so far but i'll add more when I collect it.. It's not as bad as it looks and the shell is very good (checked all the usual places and there is not grot to be found so far) All of the missing trim comes with it and it runs like a dream having only covered 81K miles before being put in storage 5 years ago. Plans are: Sort bodywork with a combination of second hand panels in the right colour and new wings which I will have painted to match. Replace all brake hoses, pads, discs, full engine service, new tyres, battery and then MOT and enjoy/refine. I'm aiming to keep the whole build sub £1K And as the pic is pants, have a bonus one of the Mrs daily.. And a rather suspect Cavalier I drove to Spain and back in last year on a charity run Hope you like and I will keep this updated

My daily drive is a 1.9 Gti. I love it ;D It needs a damn good service and the bonnet & roof could do with repainting due to a pants lacquer I'll be keeping an eye on this thread ;D

Thanks for the welcome chaps, nice to see some more pugs! Little update from yesterday (still not back at my gaff yet but did some prep for the move) - Replaced fuel filter (was missing) - Installed borrowed battery - Stuck a fiver of petrol in - Topped up fluids - Got all of the trim etc out of the interior to confirm the car is complete and started and moved around the yard under it's own steam! Purred like a kitten despite being sat for 4 years, not so much as a rattle. Gearbox and clutch etc are fine. A few pics of the day And one of the car with my mate petes 1.9GTI as well... costs so far Pug 205 GTI £250 (complete with new cambelt, brake discs and pads, oil filter, plugs, bilstein shocks, springs, drop links all in the boot ready to fit!) Fuel filter £14.99 Total to date £264.99

Nice project, great to see another 205gti being rescued. I have a 1.9 which I saved from chav-dom and I love it. Check out this months EVO mag for inspiration...

The strippage continues!! Next job is to start grinding the rust down on the front panel and get the engine bay and inner wings etc jet washed down prepped and painted. I need to replace the metal coolant hose that runs past the front wheel as that's rusted to hell. I can then start refitting the rad etc and send the wings and bonnet off for paint. Pics from today...

Not updated for a while so here goes... I got a bonnet from E-bay in the right colour for 99p! Happy days. I also got a new battery, the fuel hoses I needed, the bonnet badge and some other odds and ends including a 6 month old battery for £20. I then ordered a new solid water pipe as mine was rotten and some Bilt-hamber rust killer.. So, at the weekend I gott the whole underside/underarches etc pressure washed off, the front panel prepped and the rust killer on which has to be left overnight covered in clingfilm. I wanted to end up with the car back in the garage on axle stands so that I can now work on it in the garage until the front end is complete. Pics E-bay bonnet 99p well spent! Underarch jet washed Engine bay cleaned up a bit In the garage for proper work to commence Front panel rubbed down Rust killered and wrapped in clingfilm Manky water pipe removed ready for the new one to go on So once the rust killer has done it's stuff it's out with the hammerite for the front panel and underarches/inner wings. Total to date £360.86 I'm helping a mate fit an MI16 into his pug this weekend so no progress for a couple of weeks now.

Looking Good. Will you be replacing all of the side/wheelarch trim?

Looking Good. Will you be replacing all of the side/wheelarch trim? Thanks chap. Yes, it's all going back on after it's been treated with something to keep it black. I may even spray it all anthracite but i'm not sure yet. This afternoons progress... So the verdict is... That Bilt-hamber rust killer is rather good. On light surface rust, one to two goes does the job. (and by that I mean the full apply, wrap in clingfilm and leave 48 hours job) thicker areas required a good 3-4 goes of the same. I then gave any slight remains a good going over with Kurust and have primed with Hammerite primer (handily left in the boot of the car when I bought it so no more cost incurred) This is how it now sits waiting for lashings of black hammerite!

This week I won a pair of rust free doors on E-bay for a tenner (they need paint but are straight) so that brings the total to £370.86 so far.. Got the drivers side wheelarch all painted up (just need to do behind the strut when I take them out) I gave it another coat after this pic so it's well covered Then primed up the side pieces of the slam panel And painted I then cleaned started to clean up all of the parts I had removed and began refitting Next week the plan is to get the passenger side wheelarch painted up and continue with the re-fitting work.

Been busy with this one over the last couple of months on and off. I've built up the front suspension with new -40mm PI springs on the Bilstein dampers and also fitted the new drop links which came with the car. I also fitted a pair of new OEM strut tops as the old ones looked a little tired. It's now back on it's wheels and ready for some bodywork. Pics old top mount assembly struts built up How it sits now Next update should see it looking alot different as the wings, doors and valances will be off for paint so it can really start to go together! Spend update Top mounts 102.98 Springs 60.00 Total spend £543.74

So, thought i'd make a start again today. The front suspension etc is all sorted now and the under arches are all protected so wanted to kick off with getting the rear end sorted. It's while since i've worked on it so I spent most of today getting the garage cleared out. I then turned the car round and started preperations for getting the rear beam off. Mainly getting it sitting on axle stands and giving everything a liberal coating of WD-40. I'll keep doing this throughout the week and then next weekend I should get the exhaust and rear beam off so I can start checking and protecting the floor at the back! How I left it today... Not massive progress but i'm back into it now.

Nice little project. Most of my mates either have a one of these or have owned one. I'm yet to try one. Maybe someday!

Bit more progress today. Got the rear beam off which was a nightmare as pretty much every nut/bolt etc was well and truly rusted solid. Thankfully had a good impact driver so that made it easier. Still took most of the day though. Pics... In the air Part way through.. Off! Underside with beam removed And as it sits now... Next job is to drop the tank and start removing the brake lines etc so I can sort the floor and then start re-fitting the new bits!

Good 'o anther GTi being saved!
Just get it on the road and give it some stick! My only regret is that my car spent too long on axle stands and not being driven!
