As the title says...
Looking to go renault 16v so 1.7 preferred for ease of conversion.. Anything considered though.

I've seen your thread over on V3M.
I've got the gray Williams powered one, that started life as a 1.4, i don't think the conversion is much more difficult because of that, you just need to get the parts off of a 1.7, and notch one of the rear engine mounts.
It took 3 of us to do mine in 3 days, from removal to driving it home 200miles ;D

All the parts chasing / buying and extra little complications do make me think a 1.7 would make for less hassle.. The diff ratios on 1.7's making for slightly longer gears is also something I'd want, with the amount of motorway miles I do! I know everything can be replaced, but the work just keeps adding up! It'll be my daily too so any time spent converting is time I'm car-less.. It's a bit annoying as there were loads of 1.7's for sale a little while back when I was umm-ing and ahh-ing about 340's:D
