Thanks jizzy Yeah, weirdly it's only recently that a lot of people started to turbo them, i think it came about mainly because of how much money the 16 valve turbos are fetching nowadays and most of them have been played with to death, so moving onto the next unmolested victim!. The 8v is great - simple, pretty light, non-interference, cheap, plentiful, and different! I'm sick of seeing lets and xe's in everything!. I'd really love a light v6 on throttle bodies and megasquirt, though have a feeling it would never live up to the 8 valve turbo . Was thinking the duratecs are good engines, i'd go for a vauxhall v6 if they weren't so curse word heavy! I just love the sound of tb'd v6es, but i love the drivability of the turbo . Hmm more thought required on that front, but when i do, if i do i'll let you know ;D. yeah i was thinking of running some reinforcement on the inside of the car, but not sure now, it seems like a stronger mounting point than the original points for the axle links (they just weld to the floor ) but then again the axle link points weren't subjected to much torsion. I'll have to seriously plan it out because i'm not even sure where the reinforcement would go tbh!

Alramone - I hope this will explain it a little better, I found a pic on CR500dom's kadett thread - I hope he won't mind me using his pic!. Basically thats what the kadett's floor looks like when you cut the rear bench out (which also acts as chassis reinforcement)) the 2 arrows show where the bolts are, and the area circled with question marks shows where the chassis leg sits up against the bench sheet, and finishes. I thought maybe welding a small triangular box which would slope into the floor, but I think that may be pointless then compare the pic to my floor with the bench in place: So the bracket bolts to the inside wall of the box section leg, and the floor sort of 'sits' on the brackets since they are L shaped. The L's locate the beam centrally too.

Very interesting stuff My Coupe is due a rebuild and bodieanddoyle keeps saying about turboing the 8V in that. Seeing this is making me very, very tempted ;D

Mechanic's rule #1... If the car works, anything left on the floor after you finished wasn't needed in the first place

like it. thou i would weld a bit of 40x40x3 or simaler angle inside the car that the beam bolts go throu. maybe 200mm long? following the chassis rail. may be over kill, but better over then under do it?

hello ladies and gents! Long time no update, i've been off back home for my maams bday, and picked up some wheel bolts, brake pipes and bits and bobs that i've acquired at my parents, that I would have had to buy here, so 2 birds with one stone woopwoop! then got back and was greeted by these: sweeeet! thanks johnathan, they look immense and those spacers look the biz, extremely light and very very well done, thanks! Apart from a few dents in carriage presumably but meeh nothing that won'd file down . then they go with these (i hope): and then new pads and pipes .. This lovely chap jack from migweb dropped them off and the discs aswell as he didn't have any use for them, legend! so the front is well and truly sorted brake wise, should be immense .. I hope they won't wear much being bigger than originals, I had 288mm V6 brakes on my tigra and after a year of use the pad thickness was still the same lol, winnar! . these are 256ish iirc, but lighter car and lots more braking at the back . So anyway, now for some gazebo modding fun: Got totally cheesed off with the rain so: some mincing later the tigra had a very hairdresser unfriendly accesory, a big hat! hmmm, a bit high... for some lowering: a nice 50cm drop - much better! You can see the aerodynamic benefits! a bit tight, but enough clearance for minimal scrubbing: then the hugely underrated brake drum mod. Though with the increased downforce i'm not sure it will be needed... Just as a precaution! now the real mincing begins!

Lol, thanks hongkongphooey! I have employed another tool to the project - a ratchet strap, turns out they're quite handy ;D Since the gazebo got pimped it rained at least 3 times, so I declare it money well spent and great success! anyway, decided to beef up the beam mountings: drilled a couple of plates (from the same 7ish mm thick angle iron). then enlarged the holes in the chassis leg to allow play, then bolted the beam up again, with the plates and bracket now sandwiching the chassis leg. This spreads the load over a larger area. As I tightened the bolts the chassis metal straightened out under the pressure, then I loosened the bolts a little again. then emplyoed my new tool. then when it was true again, tightened the bolts, and welded the plate in place. Also ran a small seam joining the chassis leg to the floor, for extra stiffness. the welds look onanistic in the photos, but are decent enough then same on the other side, but the other side needed pulling the other way. so now, the beam is still removable, but when it's bolted back up in place it will be aligned already . There is a small amount of play in the bolts obviously, but both sides are within 1mm, so should be spot on also did a lot of sanding on the arches, and another (hopefully final) layer of filler, the shape is pretty spot on, but the passengers side arch is a little beefier, so need some more on the drivers Also the rear diff mount is nearly finished, this will bolt to the boot floor, onto a rail that will join the 2 chassis legs, will get pics tomorrow! bring on tomorrow ;D

Nice Build interesting to see how it will handle with the IRS in there... Are you doing anything to dial out the camber change in Bump that the e30 rear geometry has as standard ?

thanks dom, are you still keeping yours alive ?! (i hope so, its awesome!) yeah you bring a very valid point, I noticed the rate at which the negative camber increases is quite epic, and because the setup will be sitting like it's lowered, I will have some neg camber even at normal ride height. Luckily the way i've done it means that I have some adjustability of the natural ride height camber by lifting the back of the diff so to speak, so when it's all on the road I will be tuning this. It's another reason why I went for this setup - when I get an lsd in there the camber increase should allow for some heroic cornering grip;D. I have a small update - the diff mount is complete and, well, mounted ;D. all m12's once again: and a couple of very large washers (about 30mm iirc). I'm still not happy as I think it's a lot of force for the floor to take. Even though it's very strong over the 'hump' because of the shape, i'll add a rail joining the 2 chassis legs and have the bolts going through this. then added one of the trailing arms loosely mounted to the beam, and jacket it up to lowness that the car would never see lol, to gauge how far i'd have to move the spring platform: bad angle of the pic really but it needs shifting about 2cm back and in towards the diff. then a visual check of the camber at ride height - doesn't look bad at all, and the arms weren't yet bolted properly as I need to lower the whole axle to mount these . and my housemate decided to jointly participate in some 'mincing' NOMNOMNOM LOLS! the front getting there ;D nearrrrrly ready now! muchos thanks for looking chaps

thanks dude ;D hopefully not lol! In order to gauge how beefy to make everything, i looked at the way the manta axle was mounted and i'm surprised that hasn't gone walkies lol, so this will definately will stay on! also found out that the beam brackets also double up as jacking points lol - the things are stiff! ;D

cheers dudes, jizzy that pic is sexy ;D i'd love that sort of thing on the back, if I have a spare week or so i'll have to do it ;D.. Lots of progress since yesterday! Stayed up working outside till 1am last night, I really wanted to have the mould hardening over the night because it was nice and warm. So left it like this: It's beardy the kadett lols and in the morning, many hours and cuts and bruises and blood and swearing later: .. I had everything set up last night, the resin was going off - ready to roll, and realised I totally forgot to make the front panel to wing flanges, but it was too late so I had to do it all in one (minus the bonnet). But anyway, even after waxing it and after PVA release agent it still melted the paint, stuck to the filler and totally ruined my plug - all these days of hard work . But it's all in the mould now so hopefully it will look awesome What was left of the front after having to forcefully remove the mould: I destroyed it!!! ;D ... then played about with the rear axle for a bit. the spring seat nipples moved 2cm back and inwards: the shaft is now very close to the spring, but doesn't catch. I modified the tigra's springs to sit over the top rubber and gave it a trial fit. I suspected it'll bottom out since they are a lot softer than the sierra springs that I took off with the manta axle. After measuring them they came to about 150lb's, and the sierra ones 200lb's approx. Anyway, trial fitted the arms and lowered it onto it's wheels. And it bottomed out but it looked awesome check out the mad camber ;D then got underneath to check things out: the shaft angles are bad at this height, obviously the camber, and the exhaust - that's another problem. but when I jecked it to the approximate ride height the camber seemed about normal, and the shafts were almost straight. So now need to find springs. I'm thinking e30 - since I need pigtailed coils. I seem to remember picking some up with the axle but cant find them now .. Anyone got a set of standard ones lying about?!?!

Awesome Car! read all of this thread and the one on migweb and must just say WOW! For me it just needs some wheels with a bot of a dish on them to fill those arches out a little. Like these mims I had on my 325i 7x15 ET13 with 195/50 15 Yokohamas Which i may be able to sell you if you are interested - 3 good tyres other one had a puncture and i am local to Stafford! (shameless plug I know) Keep up the excellent work, looking forward to that flip front being finished!

hey croaky, thanks very much for the compliments, definately makes all the pain worth it when you get recognition you know what, I had some mims like those a couple of years ago that I sold for £50 because the lacquer was peeling off the mirror lip . I wish I hadn't now, what a mistake! You got me thinking now the bm defo looks good with those, do you think they'd look good on the kadett? I was planning on going for white comps maybe next year when I have some spare £££! Or some white rota grids, love them! (light too!) I know what you mean though, on paper the track width on the 325 axle was 2" wider than the mantas, so I was expecting proper arch filling, not sure what happened . I have some meaty spacers though, just need some longer bolts hehe

If you want I could chuck a couple of the mims in the boot of my car and bring them over sometime and try them on one side to see, even if you don't want them may give more of an idea of what offset would look best and I could have a nose at your car! Only about 5 miles or so from Stafford so not far

it may just be me, but your bottomed out ride height looks like perfect actual ride height! Get re-fabbing man! Seriously though, and I know I may of asked this question before, but which shop did you get your Megasquirt from? would you recommend them? decided to go the build it yourself route
