These cars were once people pride and joy, I can imagine somebody driving that silver GTV out of the showroom after parting with a big wedge of cash and look at it now(then) i agree, it's a real stop-and-think moment. someone has probably sat there for months with brochures before deciding on a blue Ital with the optional heated rear window. they've polished it every sunday, took it on holidays, fixed it when it went wrong. now look - it's up there, on top of a pile of cars, rusting away(*) but do you ever think where you or your folks old cars are? i fondly remember a 1985 polo C breadvan, the first new car my mum ever had. she cherished it, got ever so upset when it got 'beastied' and the rear badge stolen. the DVLA reckon it's not been taxed for 5 years (would have been 15 years old by that point) so a good age.... but undoubtedly scrap now. (*) some would say that started happening in the factory

Funny, I was genuinely going to take some pics of a few cars in a local scrap yard, in it currently is a W reg Civic, a mk1 Cavalier, and quite a few other golden oldies, the Civic looked virtually mint, even the interior was almost immaculate, what a waste!

Great pictures skodanorman! That doesn't look like your average yard, they obviously like to hoard unusual/old stuff. Amusing to see a Dolomite - even now, every time I go to a yard there's always a Dolomite or a Rover P6. Anyway, I'm going to keep uploading these photos until someone says "enough"! Tragic waste of a very sound looking car. You could even rob the alloys off one of the pair of similar hatchback models in the background. Great basis for a project, look what CelicaV8 has done with his. Is that a Fiat 850 a little way behind it? And yet another! Another car where you just ask "why is that there"? A few bits off one of the Celicas, this could have made a great project years before rmad saw the potential. Victor FD estate (love them) and a BMW '02 alongside. This oddity is a Toyota Corona 1900, did they also call them MkII? Always rare here in the UK, they also did a rather nice coupe version. Moskvich saloon on the left? What a beast! Old CROWNs are great, there was an estate in the yard too. Also Hunter and a big BMW saloon? Later CROWN. Very rusty Subaru plus Violet, Mazda B1800 and a very complete Rover SD1 behind. Finally for Toyota, there's an old Hiace plus pair each of Commer and Jaguar/Daimler.

There were at least four in the yard, helped take some bits off one for Joncedric. Something for Mr plums. And a later example. Mitsubishi Sapporo, looks very good from here as does Skoda behind. My mate Gary who introduced me to the yard in the background looking for more oddities. Cats were a feature of the yard, there were dozens of the things.

Maybe i'll have to see about importing one from Aus. Mr B, PM me if ever you're floating round in East Anglia with some time to kill Until a year or two ago there was a 929 estate of that flavour in a yard about two miles from my place. Possible it is actually still there, haven't looked recently but I'll make the effort soon. Been there a long time, owned by a banger racer. As mentioned in an earlier post, the yard in these photos closed properly about 5 years ago, although a small section was still open. So, anything you see here has been crushed/exported/raced. Sad eh? They continued to sell stuff for a little while from a bit of the yard I never even knew existed, basically woodland, and there were some real treasures there. Photos from this bit to come soon, they're a bit arty "diamond in the rough" style. The main yard area had been completely cleared, you would never have known all the amazing cars that once sat there. Anyway there's loads more still to come, glad you people are enjoying them. Haven't even started on the Datsun album yet.....

Hey spotted, my Dad lives in Wisbech so i'm often (in relative terms) in East anglia, will be there not next w/e but the w/e after as it happens.
So what was the name of this yard? Do you know John Wrights yard at Holbeach St John? That used to be a cracker, expensive though. I don't know if its been cleared or not now.

I went there a few years back, loads of British sixties stuff, including 2 Jensens, dozens of Mk2 Jags and plenty of BLMC stuff. Also had a really rotten Facel Vega HK500 and a BMW 3.0. The exporters took nearly everything Japanese, the only thing that remained where grills and hubcaps. John's a really sound guy too, he actually made his own car, a vintage 30's type thing. Got a picture somewhere. I think the yard was in the process of being cleared for housing......
The pics earlier on this thread are from his yard.

Just visited Pick-n-Pull for bits for the truck so took the little camera with me. Easy to find search for me. Just look down the rows and if the hood opens "normally" it's not for me. So it doesn't take long
