This may have been posted before (if so sorry). But these pictures show some superb scrapyards across the world (mainly early 90's pictures) before the enviro-'mental' lot have had there wicked ways. www.icmesa.com/tinhunter/Houthalen/THAHouthalen.htmAh what memories unlike the scrapyard near me (oops sorry should that be 'Metal and Vehicle disposal, recycle and reclamation centre' : that don't seem to have a single vehicle over 12 years old (most of which are in better nick than some of the vehicles I drive ;D).

It was a new one to me, thanks for posting. Fired me up to dig out some of my "scrapyards we have known and loved" photos from days gone by (well, the 1990's), thought one or two were worth sharing.... This was taken at a yard in Suffolk about 1993, one of my favourite shots. Loads of what people thought back then was late 70's bilge, swimming in a delightful sea of oily water. Three-high stacks always a bit precarious, as evidenced by the Fuego taking a nose-dive. This Colchester yard didn't seem to break stuff, it was just there for crushing. Rover P6 on top of the pile, and in the foreground there's the remnants of some 1930's shell. Yard in the background was the breakers where I picked up a South African spec R31 Skyline. Found these when my now-wife was looking for wedding dresses, meanwhile I gravitated to the classy end of Colchester! French style scrap. Looked as if they hadn't long been beside the road when I snapped them in about 1995. 105E, Simca Aronde....... and a fairly unrusty Renault 6.

I always remember a farmyard I went to in Andover about 1994 to have an overdrive fitted to my Land Rover, whilst I was waiting for it to be fitted went for a wander around the guy's field. Stacked to the gills with 60s and 70s automobilia. Humbers, RS2000s, Sunbeam Alpines, Daimler Dart, Lancia Monte Carlo shortened by a third... Amazing... wonder if it's still there ...

aww, those pics have some nice rare beasties in! Wait until you see this lot then! These pictures are from the wonderful - and sadly no longer in existence - Medler's just outside Norwich. Couldn't believe my eyes when I first went there in 1995, it was like going back in time. Oldish people who ran it, they seemed to have stopped buying fresh stuff in and relied on what had been there for years. Apologies if these scans aren't too great, but in the first shot I can see a snapped Ford Galaxie, then going clockwise I think an 1100/1300, wedge Princess, gold Cherry N10, HC Viva 2dr, Regal van, I think a red Cressida (one for rmad), possibly VW camper, FE Victor, Renaults 14 and 4 van, Austin A40, Dolomite/Toledo and finally a Corsair. Bottom corner of the yard - Singer/Humber, 1100/1300, Capri MkII, Datsun 260C 330 (saloon of these a rare beast), Dolomite/Toledo, Viva HC, old BMW?, MkI Transit camper, MkII Cortina estate, Imp coupe of some sort, Herald estate and a Farina. Red saloon right at the back has got me puzzled, maybe a Moskvich? There was a mega-rare van version of the Moskie elsewhere! Back in the middle again. Maybe a Dodge/Plymouth wagon in the middle? Then a late Escort estate, Cherry N10 estate, BMW '02?, Herald saloon, and a Bluebird 910 in the background. May not be clear to you, but there's also what I think is a Morris J4 commercial. Just visible is a bronze saloon above the roof of the wagon, below what looks like a Transit van. This is a super scarce Datsun 1800 C30, the original Laurel. Only person I know with one is Ratdat. This had been in the yard for yonks, only unlocked door had a tree growing next to it! Only saw it the once, it had gone by my next visit. If people are interested enough I have loads more pictures from this yard. Very little was stacked, except where forming a wall around the edge. Thing is, if you crawled through a half-solid car out into the woods beyond, you found that cars went out into the trees for ages. A truly amazing place, now gone

Couldn't resist posting these German lovelies..... Audi 100 Coupe, with a Fiat 126 pick-up (!) and a Corsair. Opel coupe, Rekord rather than Commodore? I think that's the remnants of a Spifire in the background, sitting on top of who knows what under the brambles.

Thats a Plymouth /Chrysler "S" series .Sometimes called a "Signet" and in Australia are known as the "S" series Valiant Australia never got the wagon back in '59-'62 but we got the sedans with the biggest engine available(in that model),the 225 slant six, probably one of the worlds greatest engines.Incredibly popular car here,in fact i can't remeber the last time i saw one for sale.

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

Now these are really nice. Only ever knowingly seen two, both in scrapyards Hardtop version of the Galant saloon currently on eBay...... Not to be confused with the Galant GTO! I love all the bizarrely overlapping Japanese models. Beautiful....

Yes! Keep posting the pics! When I was at College (in about 1990) a mate had a Mk2 Cortina Estate. We used to skive off lessons and go scrapyard hunting in Liverpool/Warrington, happy days! Wish I'd thought to take a camera. Strongest memory is of sitting with my mate in the back of a Mk2 Jag perched on top of a Range Rover, the pair of us pretending we were Regan and Carter or fat 60s business execs, smoking cigars looking out across a yard full of LOADS of stuff that'd be really interesting now

Glad to see some more pic's - well done for starting this thread TwincamGTI! Scandinavian countries do seem good for old cars, I've enjoyed a couple of trips to Norway and it's amazing what's still on the road. Ratdat has a couple of excellent albums on his site showing stuff from Norway and Finland. Some more (still lots to come!)..... Mazda 818 coupe, pushrod version of the RX3. And 818 estate, facelift model. Sunny B310 in the background, and loads of other estates - Minx?, 929/2000 Doomwagon, Marina and a couple of Avengers. Mazda 1800 saloon, from the era when Japanese had help from Italian stylists. Two of these in the yard. Any still on the road here? Know a bloke who has one in Norway. Some other nice stuff here - VW Type 3, couple of Rover P6, 1100/1300, Escort 2dr and a lovely 180B 810 estate.

I love looking at old photos like these, some of them are really errie like this one... I was too young to go to scrapyards when these were taken, I always used to see one by the side of the M25, near the Dartford Tunnel in the late 80s and always wanted to go to it. These cars were once people pride and joy, I can imagine somebody driving that silver GTV out of the showroom after parting with a big wedge of cash and look at it now(then) Today's scrapyards are normally full of recent insurance write offs and hardly anything is over 15 years old but I suppose that at the time these were taken they were worthless scrap. Maybe I should take photos now of mid 90s Mondeos and Astras now and save them for 20 years and maybe we will appreciate them ;D
