Okay folks, lets do this old school style,.. your budget is 4 grand. You've been given a Mk2 Cortina to play with (2 door or 4 door, your choice) ... What would you do*? Good source photo for Photoshopping here. * Rules : No picking an already made car and saying "this". "Drop + wheels" is acceptable, but only if you spend the entire 4k on it

My effort: The wheels are £1200, and the rest has gone into fitting most of the drivetrain out of a RWD lexus v8. (Hence the 5x114.3 wheels) It's a shame I'm no good at photoshop really.

I always fancied recreating that 500" Cadillac powered red Mk2 which was in Street Machine or Rod & Custom UK about 1984.
However... My own build would be...
straight black paint, debadge, partial detrim, partial colour code - £150 wrecked V8 Fox mustang ('87 or later model with the 5.0HO etc) - £850 Gaz or similar struts and so forth - £250 *** significant part of my life cutting, welding, cursing, calling Lee and others for help *** - £free BBK throttle body, Ford Racing upper & lower intake, Comp Mutha Thumpr cam, roller rockers, etc £1000 Custom stainless headers £750 rest of exhaust, Flowmasters, fuel pipe, cables, etc. £250 ali rad, prop, leccy fans, etc. - £500 slot mags, BFG tyres, wheel nuts - £250 Kicking Cortina V8 ass - £priceless

Ive been thinking about building another Mk2, For me, 2 things that make a car work, the right wheels, and stance Got tho be a 2 door, I was thinking 16/17" Halibrand split rim copies, easy to get in 4 stud, 7s & 9s dropped on the floor, possibly re radiused and raised arches, to "frame" the wheels, stock body and colour other than the arch mod, possibly a Mk1 golf gti bib spoiler but shortened down to about 2" Engine302 SBF with a 5 speed, or a Cosworth BOA/B, the lexus if far too wide without losing the inner wings, Ive tried, Heres one I built earlier.

I'd buy this one, drive from durham to bornemouth and back to get it, finish the bodywork, respray the original goodwood green, fit rostyles, lower on capri springs, fit a 3.75 mk1 capri axle and anti-tramp, a type 3 2000E gearbox, 1 3/4" ashley pipe capri GT seats and a zetec.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Beaten to it! I was just thinking I'd spend a bunch of the 4k paying some else to properly two door an estate.
Maybe spend the rest on a Shorrock blower for the crossflow, lower it enough and adapt the hubs to fit 5 spoke VW BRMs

i'd have a 2 door car on banded chromed rostyles, spend a grand on a 24v cossie lump, manual box and capri back axle, a grand on brakes, suspension and interior bits to make it nice and the other 2 grand on petrol. My 24v mk5 stood me in about £3000 worth of parts including the two cars and only really needed painting to finish it, so its easily possible.
|
|
Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Bit of a drop. Pale yellow paint. I'm keeping the rostyles because i like them and and am curse word at photoshopping wheels. A zetec under the bonnet and a spot of trim and handle removal.

right, starting out with a series 1 estate (coincidentally I own one in real life anyway). Nissan SR20 DET conversion coming in at around £1500. LSD equipped rear axel from a nissan 200sx for around £500. Wheels around the £500 mark. Brakes and suspension upgraded for around £1000. Tints and a little bit of audio for £500
