Mega bump!
I was thinking and searching about the mk2 Cortina when I found this thread.
My proposal that a Ford DOHC 8V with twin Weber 45 DCOE and Type 9 5 speed gearbox would do nicely in a 4 door shell.
Some BBS crossspokes in 15x7 flavour and some 205/50R15 tires to finish it off. Usual brake and suspension mods.
Does it has leaf springs at the rear or coils with links?

I love the sound of that plan; sounds like a decent achievable plan that will give a nice result without costing a fortune. And the MkII Cortina is one of the few cars that looks equally good in 2- or 4-door flavour.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Haven't stopped thinking about that white 4-door that was for sale on here t'other week.
In my mind it's missing it's bumpers, has a Cossie V6 in it and is slammed on Gaz shockers over 15" minilites. Think I'll have the centres in graphite grey.
Bet that leaves loads more in the budget doesn't it?!

I'll bite - I think I'd go for what I should have done to my old hunter wagon - which I bought as it wasn't as scene taxed as the blue oval versions first off, rip that x-flow out, and plop in an XUD and box out of an LDV pilot, matey down the yard would do me one for about 200 quid prop could be sorted out for a favour, so no worries there blocks on the back, and a few coils out of the front, say 20 quid for the back, foc at the front and then a set of w-i-d-e dishy slots, 14" or possibly 15", with a good bit of stretch to get them under the stock arches repaint in some bright matt colour with a foam roller - say 100 quid (oh, and shaved rear door handles) then, once it's on the road, some bags for the back, to allow for the tat carrying capacity, a hidden towbar for moar tat hauling, a turbo to liven it up a bit, my big wagon roofrack, and a couple of cool cycles on the roof done!

Almost on the road: b11 sunny breadvan, e36 tds, 325i skidcar,
nearly there: ford f250 tathauler, suzuki alto, u11 bluey
not for a while: ford pop, 32 rails,
not in this lifetime: ruby, '29 hillman

sounds fun:
Might go a bit left field for mine then....... Jag XJR 4.0 V8 supercharged engine, rear axle, gearbox, drivetrain etc basically a cortina body on an XKR/XJR and that just about leaves enough money for 1 tank of petrol lol Super Cortina ;D

Mine would be an estate shell 2 doored with 2 door doors, slightly tubbed rear with a 4 stud, 8" axle narrowed to sui,t with a 4 bar set up, deep dish rostyle's on the rear standard rostyles on the front, lowered all round with mk2 escort suspension up front 2.0 zetec with a turbo, lotus cortina interior and topped off with something like old english white to make it a propper sleeper.
