Anyone else beavering through last minute preparations for RRG '09?
1) I've got to get the new clutch fitted (awaiting a new oil seal first).
2) clean up and free off rear brakes
3) tax and test
4)source some alloy wheel nuts and get tyres swapped over.
I cant wait!

A few of us from Ireland are bringing cars that haven't seen the road for a good while, without even time for a real shakedown period before we bring them over. Check out Mark's thread in Reader Riders, and I'm bringing a Capri that hasn't really been driven since it had engine failure last augaust. Dunno if it'll even get to the end of the road, nevermind the 600 miles to the show.

Need to find out what the vibraty type noise is thats coming from n/s/f suspension. And then I need to fix it!
Other than that, a bit of a clean really and then we are ready.

Hope to get my new Atiwe wheels sorted before the trip, but doubt that. New luxury licenseplates are ordered and should be in tomorrow. If I win the leather seats and bench they need to be fitted too. And I hope to get my stereo sorted, because a 1200 kilometer trip without music is a bit too much for my liking. ;D

I'm working 6 days a week and moving house in the time before RRG. However I'm gonna try and touch up the arches, and install my subwoofer so I can annoy you all effectively on the campsite --edit 1-- Ohh and I gotta install and wear in my new brake pads but that isn't even worth mentioning tbh lol. --edit 2-- OOOOH and I need a new Dagenham Motors number plate surround as my brother broke my old front one so I have a lame number plate on the front with no holder

Chop front springs, touch up a coupla hundred scratches, fill in some deliberate holes, and pray that the new wheels fit under the arches. And then I can start on the 'proper' work.

i need to add more stickers to the trailer and car! Get a wheel clamp for it too, Not so much for RRG, more for the week before hand camping with the normal folk of the south coast. Alarm should be fitted this week fingers crossed.... metalic pinging noise from front suspension to inspect (again) aint ever found what it is, been there for 18 months now. Oil and filter change wouldnt go amis before the roadtrip.

BAH!
It's all gone tits up.
Decided to sort out the dents and bit of rust on the left side of my car, so cracked out the filler, the por15 and the paints, and got to work.
Was all going so well, until: a) I found out flies LOVE..and I mean LOVE the smell of POR15. Never seen so many dead flies in one place as my front wing. b) while getting the drill outta the shed I threw my back out and have since been unable to walk, let alone work.
This leaves my car with large filler/primer grey patches, with flydashing, unsmoothed bits of filler and incapacitated with 4 days until I leave for RRG.
Yay?

I need to get a new tyre for the O/S/R after a particulaly smokey doughnut. Slight hum/vibration at 40mph to have a looksee at, reset the tappets if get a spare hour and then its a quick polish before the off.
We're getting giddy now....

check! I still have to put on one last color on the celica, then assemble the whole car, clean it up after 2 weeks of welding, grinding and sanding. Get al my stuff sorted, refurbish the wheels, cut out the lexan sheet for the roof. Glue it in... and it all has to be done on wednesdayevening....

I've seen a bunch of people overhauling a complete wreck in 60 minutes on TV, so why can't I do it in 3 weeks?

I'm still trying to sort out the radio. I now have 2 dashspeakers working, but there is an amp and a sub in the boot. Probably a broken wire, hoping ot fix that today.
Also my brakes seem to be hitting the brakepads when the steeringwheel is something other than deadcenter, so need to look at that too. Might fit some Golf steelies to see if that sorts it.
