Ive been a touch quiet of late ,due to the fact ive been adding to the fleet somewhat, Now as some of you will know over the past 4 years or so ive been doing lots of trackdays in my c220 manual which has been an amazing time ,definately very addictive! and has allowed me to do lots of this, ![](http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b90/biggerperm/IMG_2570.jpg) All has been good ,but decided about a year ago the old girl could do with a tad more oommff!!.... so I bought this with the hope of a future swap, ![](http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b90/biggerperm/07012009896.jpg) 1992 mercedes 320e,with a very sweet fully serviced 3.2 24v m104 ![](http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b90/biggerperm/07012009894.jpg) but after trying to locate a 6 cyl flywheel and a few other choice bits bits nothing really happened........ and tbh really didnt want to upset the track balance with a welded diff and a straight 6.. So recently I bought this....sobre (unusual)on the bay ,1994 c280 sport manual, with m104 also which appears to be as rare as poor quality wobbly children's play pony poop, which I ve probably been looking for ,for about 18 months, sorry bout the first pics, but they're straight off the bay, With the hope of putting in the 3.2 very soon !! ![](http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b90/biggerperm/BY6OcSQWkKGrHgoH-DEEjlLl0zoyBKkFZhE.jpg) ![](http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b90/biggerperm/BY6OiqgmkKGrHgoH-DoEjlLlw14UBKkFZ9P.jpg) £442 for the first car ive ever bought on the bay, There was a friend of mines c 280 on heres somewhere else which with 170k was rolling roaded at 211 bhp , so this lump will suffice for now (hopefully ;D) so first things first..as of yesterday ....down girl!!and get those sodding arches off ;D ;D ![](http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b90/biggerperm/160920091331.jpg) 2 coils all round,withw203 sport coils rear!. I have recently sold the leather out of the 320 and made all my money back on that ,keeping the diff (to weld up) the lump, and the box as a spare for the sl. and has since gone too the crusher!.and ive just sold the leather out of the 280 also for £220 which is nice So plans for now are big brakes (which I have), tidy up the body, new wheels (which I have) weld diff, decat, fly off hanbrake, bonnet pins, indution, strip out,it will prob be silver and primer for ever ,bucket seats, new steering wheel, pedals, harness and so on, So far it stands me about £250 due to the interior going and me amassing all sorts of cheap tat off the bay,£10 for a harness,£5 for an air filter 99p for some pedals,£2 for a gearknob, late night drunken ebay is dangerous for sure!! ;D Something tells me ive been affected by the colonels driving skillz at the gathering somewhat!!

It sounds like a similiar situation with my E30, I never even drifted before but got the diff welded up anyway. It was the best thing I did to the car. Most of the negativity surrounding welded diffs are exaggerated by people to prove a point that they're dangerous, unsafe etc. I got it welded for trackdays and it was so much better than the open diff, if I just want to drive quick instead of trying to drift it was perfectly fine and it was great for going sideways! On the road it was fine too, I was commuting 110miles a day and the worst thing about the car was the lack of interior, not the diff. IMO welded diffs are win win.

Sideways Mercs ACE! ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) kinda looking forward to the diff and pooping about the same also!! I spent ages worrying about get the diff welded in my old Sierra, and I can honestly say that it was the single best modification I made to the car (well next to the coilovers). It made the car so much fun, the positives massively out weigh the negatives. I'm a welded diff convert and you will be too ;D

As everyone says, its basically awesome. Best thing youll do I only know one person with one fitted who didnt like it. Only thing to remember is you really have to chuck the car to get past the initial understeer and then its slide-a-go-go! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Drift stuffs quite easy really for basic. Just add stuff as you find the limits of the car. One excellent thing to do is to increase the amount of steering lock available to you (grind the lockstops off on most cars, but can get more complex.... is the merc a steering rack or box?) Check on the new full lock that no brake pipes or anything rub. Check it doesnt go over centre (when you steering to full lock and the steering 'locks in position...... unlikely with just ground lockstops) and then marvel at being able to hold new found angles of crazy slide Let me know if you know this all already of course! but its best to push the car you have to the limits and then learn and modify really. But youve got most bases covered really

p.s.
A welded diff will not instantly kill you like people would want you to believe. it'll be perfectly fine if done by a decent welder, no pidgeon excrememt weldin!
the good points are:
-major sidewaysness -predictable -cheap -FUN FUN FUN
bad points: -makes low speed driving pretty annoying (eg car parks, 3 point turns etc) -rear wheels skip/scuff and you'll destroy sets of rear tyres even when not drifting, but its worth it
the gooD outweighs the bad

This C-class still has a steering box. It was the W210 E-class that was the first merc with a rack.

Ive picked up a few more items yesterday ,a pair of secondhand front wings,a late model lower bumper spoiler as fitted to the 220, which i can hopefully primer today..and I'm off shortly to pick up the rocker cover from the polishers (as ive been known to be a bit gay like that, rodit will prob tell you more) ;D ;D oh and ive ordered some pretty rare mercedes africa violet paint, which is pink...hmmmm I'm gonna try and get as much done this week as poss, but might be a bit slow as I'm off on my hols a week sunday so lots to sort out !! so bear with me fellas...cheers again

How many Hp's is the c220 got? this one was rolling roaded at 170bhp about a year ago!! it has since had a four branch manifold and few other tweaks but nothing serious!! ![](http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b90/biggerperm/220520091079.jpg) ![](http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b90/biggerperm/19022009934.jpg) the styling will be very similar to this one also ,just involving a touch more colour i think! ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

Oh no you will have to use one of your 60 spare head lights ;D Really good to see this coming along although why you go on holiday the week i am off work and could come up to prep the body for free? As for his comment of gayness, he is not that's just his hair style. He is however a leather driving glove wearing COCK as his numberplate at ppc proved. Watch this one with avid interest folks as in all honesty i have not seen the guy build a bad non show worhty car yet. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) ;D ;D
