Still no news re the E21. I'm told it'll be ready for some shows this year. I was told that before though, so don't want to get my hopes up. It's well into the third year now though, so It's hard to stay positive.
There bad news re the M3 too. We took it to Bristol last weekend and when heading home, we exited the M5 at Cribbs Causeway. Unfortunately the car behind me failed to stop and the resulted in shunting me into the car ahead. It was quite a hard hit and there's some pretty substantial damage, although thankfully no one was hurt. So the M3 is now sat in a body shop awaiting an estimate for repairs. The parts bill is already over £4k though and labour charges won't be cheap. I just hope it doesn't get written off! Especially as I just secured myself a set of BBS E50 split rims! I was also entered into the Crystal Palace Sprint but right now, I'm not sure it'll even be finished?
One bit of good luck came in the shape of a 2 year old M3 cabrio courtesy car. The performance is incredible and the V8 makes an awesome noise. It's a bit juicy though and I'll need to watch I don't lose my licence! Anyway, I'll post some photos tomorrow.

Oh no Mark, that's awful news re the M3. I'm glad to hear you're ok that is the most important thing. 'Still a sh*t though. Is there any damage to the rear wings/quarters?

One good thing about values of these cars increasing is that it's less likely to be written off.

Mark, what an absolute bummer! Hope the insurer plays ball. This is always a worry for my car, being hit and not being able to get it repaired or the pay out falling short due to it being modified or a little different from the norm. Especially when you don't cut corners when doing work on it. Good luck.

Thanks mate. Here are some pics showing some of the damage. The photos don't show the panel distortion very clearly though. Things like the leading edge of the bonnet (where it has bent over slightly) are more obvious in the metal. Although a lot of parts are still available, there are a lot that aren't. I can see this meaning that they could simply declare my car an ''uneconomical repair'', in which case it would be written off. Were that to happen, I would hope to be given a fair market value, that I could then use to rebuild the car. It's all unresolved at present though and it's a curse word situation to be in. Even if they gave me the cash to go buy a replacement M3, it would cost a significant amount to convert a stock car to the same specifications as mine. Right now though, I am just waiting to hear when the assessor will be attending to view my car in person. I'll be taking all the service records, pre accident photos and adverts showing cars that are presently for sale. On a brighter note, I have these for when the rebuild starts..... I also found an uprated and significantly lighter alternator kit, which isn't much more than an OE item cost wise. Still no news re the E21. I intend going to see it soon though, as I really want it back for this years show season.

I have no idea how much these cars are worth or how much spare parts cost (if you can still get them)so this may be a stupid idea. . .If the insurance company don't play ball and fix it could you not just use this as a track car and spend the insurance payout on something else? Like i say this may be a stupid idea it also doesn't take account of how much love you have for the car! Either way mate i hope it gets resolved in a way your happy with. cheers steve

No, it's not a stupid idea at all. Realistically, rebuilding as a dedicated track car would be the easier option. I'll also have to use some second hand parts, as not everything is available new. Right now though, it'll all come down to the assessor and my demonstrating an accurate market value. I've spent a fair chunk getting the shell totally free from corrosion and even if I bought another rust free M3, it would be quite a labour bill to fit all the upgrades. I just hope I get an assessor who knows what these cars are about.

Some of these have made big money recently, I would of thought they'd take that into account.

What a shame hope you get a assessor who knows what these cars worth when my car was hit I got an assessor who valued it at scrap rate all cause I had a dent on the boot and bumper was hanging of well he was shocked when I came back with the market value of €3,000 for one in the same condition

they are gunna curse word themselves when they see the claim for that!
i hope yours claim a lot better than mine, I'm 2 months into a substantial non-fault claim and have got nowhere. i just put in a £4.5k claim on a £10k car, and its caused an utter sh1tstorm, mostly because the assessor was a utter cock and tried to make out it could be fixed in 40hrs when i estimated a bit over 100, and then tried to claim it was only worth 6k, despite my insurer telling me i was probably under insured at 10.
they are a law unto themselves (made worse by underwriters taking their opinion as gospel) and really don't have the slightest clue when it comes to non run of the mill vehicles. if its hoopers who are assessing and you get a guy with a nervous stutter who does 'all their unusual stuff', be very worried, as hes an incomprehensible, uneducated idiot.
i did exactly as you plan to with a very detailed quote listing what needed doing, now long it would take, parts cost, pricing of comparible vehicles for sale, and the just totally ignored it.

Mark, you know the right people, I'd be getting a realistic repair valuation from someone you trust using where needed used parts and in addition an optimistic independent valuation by a BMW recognised repair shop. I would expect the insurers valuation being in the middle of the two and there you have some negotiation power in getting a reasonable payout to choose your own path of outcome. Everything's reparable given the right budget.

I have a feeling that E30 M3's are getting to the point where as long as the VIN tag survives, they are economically repairable.
Shame my E30 325iS was not as valuable when I crashed it......
My advice is the same as everyone else, prove the value of the car, the value/cost of the upgrades and then get a couple of really comprehensive quotes to either fix yours or to replace it with 'like'.
Good luck !

This stuff grinds my gears, really sorry to hear about the M3 Mark, it looked like a top motor! When it's all fixed up I hope to blag a passenger seat "M3 Experience" as I've never even sat in an M3...
I still can't believe the E21 isn't finished yet. Is the guy just not working on it?!
