my brothers defender was stolen about 2 months ago, round his area (south yorkshire) the thieves take about 10 a week. they are never ever recovered either as complete cars or parts.
the same night his was taken two of his mates lost theirs
they are driven straight to the docks at immingham, into containers and are taken into east europe/russia.
the police are unable to do anything as the people who steal them are of a certain, er, demographic......
my brother was furious when his was nicked, and as he works in the trade he rang every specalist and breaker and heard the same story from them all. basically claim on the insurance its gone forever.........
i guess its becasue they are so easy to steal, all that was left on the drive was the remains of the drivers door lock - his dog didnt even bark

trouble is there is a massive market for the parts, i have just recovered and spent two days identifiying 6 different vehicles from the one whole vehicle recovered... the only genuine part was the chassis!

My mate had his defender stolen a year or two back from the car park for the Royal Berks Show. Apparently around 10 of them were taken from the same car park and not one of them was ever seen again
