Dean, if its any help this is what 155/70 looks like on the 5.5s The 5.5" summer alloys on the Herald have 165/70s on the front as I found 175/70s rubbed arch and bulkhead. The small drop in diameter really helped. Kevman, Dibs on the Pierce wheels! Yum!

That's interesting - I have 155 80R13's on at the moment and they rub slightly on the arches. I feel that they are too tall in comparison to the crossply originals, and 135 or 145 R13's would be a closer rolling radius. So a 155 70R13 could be spot on! And from that photo, there's no obvious stretch (stretch wouldn't do on a '60s car! ;D).

175 70's used to rub on my Vitesse. don't know how much space there is under a Bond though.

I can get away with 165 tyres on the front, which should ease things a bit, but with the rears I can only go down to a 185 on a 7J, and that's a width down from the 195 minimum recommended for that size wheel. I don't really want to have any stretch, as the rear suspension needs a pliable sidewall I think. Going too low profile or stretching the sidewalls will give me a twitchy feel I reckon. Not that I'll be racing around anywhere, but still... ;D I've got spacers to play around with, so once I have the holes drilled to size I can start seeing what I really need to do to get them on. I run 165 60 13's on the 7's on the rear of my Datsun 1200 so they clear the arch, and they aren't particularly stretched, still plenty of sidewall for a nice ride. 175 / 185 should sit nicely and not give you any sidewall problems either *edit* This is what they look like fitted, fronts are 6.5s, rears 7

Passed the MOT this morning - good times! The tester let me hook the car up to the emissions tester to tweak the mixture as it was a bit rich still. Runs even nicer now.

Thanks! As my tester said: "Get it painted, because no copper is gonna believe this has got an MOT looking like that!" It's always nice to get a good look underneath the car. I really need to underseal the whole car but I will do that this summer.

Thanks guys. I got an advisory on play in the steering knuckle joints but I can just shim them up on these and it'll be hunky-dory. Paint is next, as I need to save a bit for the tyres and mess about with getting the wheels to fit. It's getting warmer out there so hopefully soon it will be yellow no more!

That would be great mate! 4 post lift would be a godsend for the underseal too. Are you coming to the Limes next weekend? Could talk to you about it then if you are.

Congrats on the ticket! Driving away from the test station with another 12 months in your pocket is one of the best feelings!
