Subaru flat 4 in a Beetle. Interesting. I know a guy who likes to put Alfa Romeo flat 4 engines into VWs. He has a '74 Beetle and a '75 Bay Window Camper with Alfa engines, but he says sorting out the fuel injection and ECU, which he keeps, are a right curse word, but he wouldn't put carbs on them! He offered to stick one in my Imp once, but the extra weight of an Alfa engine would curse word up the handling, and I like Imp engines!
