I'm looking for a very f**king cheap runaround....less than £500....with 12months mot and maybe tax that i can slam and enjoy pimp motoring.
I'm thinking 740gle, but can i lower these?
or maybe a 240gle?
or maybe vw polo mk2/passat estate?
my mind is boggling ;D
anyone else with some interesting ideas?

My Scirocco GT2?
1800cc weber fed with a K&N cleaning the air.
1991 car, low, late GTi Steels, Avon ZV1's at the front, some cheapos on the back (usually only has one back wheel on the ground anyway.
Needs a new screen fitting, but it's not bonded, and I've got the screen which you can have (clean, un chipped etc)
111k, MOT'd till Nov, Taxed till about then too, no stereo, but £40's worth of JBL door speakers. (won't fit anything else I've got)
Wanted £550 or thereabouts, but I'm taking offers.

Volvo 240? Mine's hugely juicy. Solid and carries loads. Spares plentiful. I would go for the Polo though for cheap all round motoring.

You gotta see this. I found it whilst searching for something blue. It was taken in Madagascar and shows we're not alone!

Mk1 Polo's are cool! ;D I would look for rust on the sills, front and rear valances and the bottom of the rear arches, these parts were/are problems with mine. Get the carpets up and check the floor too, and under the front wheelarches, where the shocks mount, can be dodgy. Sounds a cool car though, good colour inside and out! Post some pics up if you get it!

why not get a skoda estelle? They're dead cheap and easy to give retro look. Also great fun to drive and can be mod'd to go even faster... This one hasn't even been modified...

Go for the 740. One of the most comfy cars built in the 80s, and you should be able to get it lowered no bother. McPherson struts shouldn't be too much of a problem. Or you could go the whole way and track down a 760. Big V6 engine, full leather interior, electric interior and air con (although a 740 GL has those two as standard) nicer alloys, and a great ride. Failing that, a 740 is nearly as nice. My old man swears by them, he's had a 1988 740 GL since it was a year old and it still hasn't let go, although maybe we should change the diff soon. (another afternoon on the garage floor!)
Besides, there are loads of them running about with small block Chevy V8s in the US, and thats a wide, heavy old curse word, so you could try a Rover V8 in it if you ever get bored with it!
