I hate scothclocks too! The guy who did the wiring on our old P6 V8 loved them though Had a minor panic myself, yesterday - put a new wheel bearing on the Golf, tested it and all OK. Went out in it later and it started making all sorts of horrible, expensive sounding clonking noises... Further investigation revealed that the handbrake cable tube thing had come off its clip and was rubbing against a wheel weight. PHEW! I love it when an expensive sounding roblem is rectified by a three pence cable tie!
