Love browsing this forum but don't have much time to do so at the moment. One thing ive always thought though is that the general section (Where ive posted, and have probably been moved on from by now!) is just way toooo general.
Example, When I log on, usually the first two to three pages are of New topics/posts. So easy to miss a plea for help from someone with a mechanical issue cos its hidden between amazing scrapyard find threads for example.
Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just the Victor meldrew in me??
Mods, can we start talking about more sections please.
Mechanical, General photo & videos, spotted, insurance, exhaust, brakes, interiors etc....you get the idea.
Would just help browsing and help people out with specifics rather than having one bucket filled with everyones posts/threads.
Also is there an option to be emailed when you receive replies on your posted topics, ive had for sale posts where ive stated EMAIL me, people havent, posted about it & got the hump with me as ive not time to browse all of my posts everyday as I'm busy.
Discuss.....

Get the feeling this won't be too popular, as it's been suggested before. However I do kind of agree, or at least have the general sub forum split into, pics/videos, one for help perhaps, then one just for general stuff.

Well, we have a videos sticky, a spotted sticky, a for sale cars (ebay) sticky.... there are already boards for non-general stuff (including "website related" which is where this thread should be...) I dunno if you can get email notification of posts to your threads (I can't find an option for it... but you can have an email when you get a PM (prefs tab, inbox), so I suggest saying "PM me" in your for sale thread? And this.... ned.ronet.ru/0/1970 Hillman Avenger.jpg[/img] for victor meldrew...

When you separate the forums too much you end up with sections no one reads. You've got more chance of getting help on the general board than anywhere else.
Curiously, most members who suggest this after being on RR for a while end up changing their mind about it later...the same thing happens with the 'can we have an off-topic' question too.

Love browsing this forum but don't have much time to do so at the moment. One thing ive always thought though is that the general section (Where ive posted, and have probably been moved on from by now!) is just way toooo general. It is only too general if you don't visit every day ... so visit every day,.. religiously. In fact it is more important than that! Making forum ghettos isn't going to happen, I've seen it tried and failed elsewhere,.. and where it would be considered a 'success' I don't like what it has done to the forums. RR is that mix between "here look at this awesome car" and "how do I get this alternator to fit in my engine bay" ... If people post up subjects worth talking about they will get talked about, if they post up a technical query that people can answer,.. they will get answered, maybe not by the casual visitor, but there are enough people eyeballing the forum now days that a question will get responded to. Very very very occasionally things sink without a trace, which is a shame, but it is the exception rather than the rule. So in conclusion,.. RR = more important than anything; also is fine.

Discuss..... Hi Ad, When you make a post, click the tickbox in the bottom that says 'Bookmark: Check this box if you wish to bookmark this thread' (just above the 'post reply' and 'preview' buttons. If, like me, you always forget to do this then simply click the 'bookmark' button/option at the top left of the screen (you can do this on any thread....so you can even find your old threads and now bookmark them ) Hope that helps Dude and look forward to seeing you at the weekend. ;D

I'd agree to an extent.....having said that I'd like to see a separate Tech thread on here, perhaps at the expense of any one of the old RRG threads in the 'Archive' section, some of which haven't been contributed to since 2008.
But hey. 'Your Forum, Your Way'. ;D

I've posted loads of useful tech stuff into the general board over the years.. some of it I can't find any more. What needs doing to get stuff wiki'd? I don't necessarily plan my posts, sometimes I just have some interesting photos from the day and a sort of story to tell.

my only request is a: people title threads properly instead of 'i like this', 'check this out', 'bargain' etc as it is impossible to remember whether you haev visited that particular thread before
b: Separate section for transportation, like moving cars, collecting some wheels, because then whenever someone is about to set of on a trip, they can quickly check the section for relevant posts they might be able to help with.

A) really annoys me .. and B) I plan to do this, you may have noticed some board shifting around.

It may just be me but the main forum page looks really cluttered now David,.
I think with the new additions and movements it looks like there are tonnes of boards. maybe put the archive boards into a sub-board type flip down thingy? i dunno but its bugging me

I quite like the fast paced general section now I understand and set up the bookmarks correctly..
