SOUTHERN CONVOY - M3, M303

Okay, well this worked well last year apart from the traffic we encountered so I'm proposing having it start a little earlier.

So far, I reckon:


Fleet Services (M3) - 12:00-12:15pm

Barton Stacey (A303) - 1:00-1:15pm (link)

Solstice Service Area (A303) - 2:00-2:15pm

Haynes Museum RRG - 3:00pm (ish)


This gives us the same relaxed 'plod' we had last year - except early enough so as to avoid the traffic from the Solstice area onwards (Stone Henge onwards)

If the SE convoy want to meet with us at Fleet on the M3, that'd be great. Also, if the Euro boys are about, we'd love you too ;D

Popham got very busy very quick last year once the big dose of Euro + extras met us there so I thought maybe change it to the Barton Stacey one that's a few miles further along.

Any thoughts?

Meet at Solstice and then head through the countryside.. We'll be posting alternative routes on the site in due course... if you mark Solstice as your last meet up point and then you can use alternative routes from there. Shouldn't have to leave as super early then.

Also we moved it away from being the busiest weekend of the year for the A303

I think your estimation of 45 minutes from solstice to haynes may be a little on the short side! its usually queing from solstice on a friday from 2.30, i drive it most days! sorry to be the bearer of poo news! there is a scenic detour out the back of amesbury that joins the 303 further down (i guess this is what HotWire is on about) its a few miles longer but you don't hit traffic, which means you don't overheat :-)

What is the route then guys?
I also think avoiding the A303 at the Solstice roundabout is a must. I am used to doing London to Salisbury so know how bad it can get. Best to turn off the A303 at the new Solstice park, before the roundabout.
I wouldn't really know which way is best to go from there though.
I am going to suggest -
A303 - off at Amesbury before main roundabout
Go South on A345 towards Salisbury
Turn right onto B road at Dumford, through a couple of hamlets and pick up the A36.
A36 back onto A303.
Would that work?

I'm heading down on Friday too,.. I'm not sure what time (as I need to swing by the Dungeon and get some bits) but I suspect it'll be before you,.. however I may pop into the services to check for people just in case

If at Fleet, everyone heads towards the hotel end of the carpark, we should be able to congregate pretty well before we head off
