I really want to hear one of them run. It's an aircooled V8 isn't it?
Edit: needs less exhaust:

Here's a gorgeous sounding (and looking) 603. A Tatra has been on my dream top-10 cars list for a while, although I'd prefer an earlier one than the 603.
I'm undecided on the modded one, but I think I like it.

I think a lot of the car modifiers that come from Russia and the former Eastern Bloc have very... different ideas about aesthetics. A lot of time the work that's gone in is amazing, but kind of falls flat in the looks department.

The Easten Bloc car that makes me go all funny is the Trabant. I have had a love for these cars ever since I married a Hungarian, we go out there at lest twice a year and its amazing what some people out there do to them. One day I will have to scan in some off my old photos. My in laws have a elderly friend that is going to give up driving soon, she ha s a Trabant 601 which she has had from new. This thing has been kept in a garage all its life and never been driven in wet weather. So hopefully I will soon have a fun holiday car Anyway lets have some pics. I do like that last one.

Have you been to the Terror House in Budapest? There's a communist era limo on the first floor which I think is a custom Tatra, but I can't find a good pic of it anywhere, apart from these close up shots off their website. (It's one of the best museums I've seen and well worth a visit.)

I think it would look immeasurably better in a colour other than white. It looks like an exotically-shaped hot tub, or Alan Partridge's Buck Rogers toilet.
Much like the Moskvitch, I think the two-dooring and the chop are excellent, proportions are spot-on. I even like the choice of wheels. Front and rear ends are a bit too "modern" and fussy for my liking though.
I'm intrigued by these engines too - how much do they weigh? I've always fancied the idea of some sort of Special or Lotus 7-type powered by one; I guess assuming that an aircooled alloy V8 would be pretty light and fairly simple.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

I really want to hear one of them run. It's an aircooled V8 isn't it? Edit: needs less exhaust: Yes, it's an aircooled 2.5 litre hemi V8. I recorded my white car when I wrote this site: www.tatra-register.co.uk/ There's a page called "603 Page" which has a few more details. If you click on "About Tatra Register" you'll hear the shriek of the twin cooling fans when you let the revs climb www.tatra-register.co.uk/movi.swf Sorry for the lack of detail, when I did it most of the internet was on dial-up so I needed a small file size!

A 1968 Tatra 603 coupe. I've never heard of a two-door version, so maybe it's been two-doored like the Mosky. You're right, all the production cars and prototypes were 4 door. The engine came out of Tatras 1950s single seat racing car though I'm intrigued by these engines too - how much do they weigh? I've always fancied the idea of some sort of Special or Lotus 7-type powered by one; I guess assuming that an aircooled alloy V8 would be pretty light and fairly simple. The 603 engine isn't too heavy, as you say it's all aluminium but there's a lot of it! Rebuilding one is very complicated because when it was designed, they had plenty of time to assemble it. None of what you get now - if the whole car takes more than 8 hours to build the company goes under. The engine started out in their single seater racing car, a detuned version was used in the T805 truck (front mounted and 4WD) but it also made it into a few specials. Here's the stunningly pretty JK2500 with a T603 engine in the front

I'm not sure, precisely, what it is I don't like about this white one, perhaps it's because it looks a bit too much like a giant Fiat 500 to me, or perhaps it's just that I prefer the original styling and that white and bodykit seem to wipe a lot of it out. The Tatra custom build I'd like to see more on is the Kustom Bart one, which is being done ledsled style and should look excellent when/if it's finished. (get past the front page, it's okay) www.kustombart.nl/Blog here too: kustombart.blogspot.com/The Tatra 603/4 is definitely on my want list.
