not used the woods bike much...er the Eagle. the rear wheel has a bit of movement in it. even if the cones are too tight that it hardly turns. so I got the rear wheel from the girls bike. I measured the hub. flanges are about a half mil different width from Eagles spoke flange width. so ripped the wheel to bits. cleaned up the hub and fitted the axle and bearings from Eagle, with cones from girls bike. the eagles hub was worn and pitted. allowing the bearings to sit further away from the cone, so giving free play. It would have eventually broke the bearing track from the hub shell. I cleaned all the bits in hot water with a brillo pad. then laced the girls bike hub into the eagles rim and spokes. I trued it up some. but have a headache and gave up. needs run about. to ease the stresses in the spokes. Ive been clearing snow outside. but it keeps on snowing.

3 months ago I found a bike in good condition in the woods, in town. I looked around. no one about. was a lot of rubbish there. so looks like it had been dumped. It had no chain. I pushed it, and my blue bike, to the police station. Put it in lost property. So after 3 months I went on wednesday the the first to get my....Christmas bike. Heres a pic of it on the train home. crummy phone pic. just as well. as my ugly mugs reflected in the window. Its an Apollo Fs26. 17" in really good condition. It doesnt have a chain. I examined the cogs. very little wear. So went and ordered a cheap chain from ebay. Ive been spannering it. took the gear mechs and brakes to bits. One pads really worn as spring adjustment screw was backed out...so it was dragging on rim. Ive got other pads. tho thinking of fitting the alloy vs and levers off my tescos bike. Instead of plastic levers and pressed steel Vs. Ive sanded the front rim sidewall. as the black anodising was worn streaky. looks good now. will have to do the rear wheel. Ive fitted a pound shop stand. with a stainless steel bolt to hold it on. will have to get a 17mm socket. cant get my spanner down in between the chainstays. so packed the bolt up with 4 or 5 stainless washers. Gonna fit a Lidls bike computer and a set of tiny Led lights. Will be a good going bike. so far its cost me £10, for the parts Ive mentioned

Ive been stuck here for a few days. snow stopped the trains. and busses arent to abundant either. so on saturday I decided to bike to Monifieth. about 5 miles away. I biked along the path between carnoustie golf course and the train rails. It wasnt so bad. as the snow had been cleared, sort of. but after the golf course ended. the bike path was foot deep in snow that was all cut up with footprints. There was a road roller. as they are resurfacing the bike path. shoulda hot wired it and rolled my way to tescos. I should have biked along the train trails. as they werent all that deep in snow. I struggled along to the main road and then to Monifieth. Came back the same way. seen a Vauxhall Monaro pass me by at no speed. even tho roads were cleared. he still had to take it easy. he passed at a place thats had a Mark 1 Cortina and a Volvo amazon rotting away for years. will have to take photos for the abandoned ones. The cortina didnt have a green stripe.

Ive fitted it. had a fiddle about with gears. been round the carpark on it. still needs more fiddling with. nothing major

been out and about on the christmas bike. heres it at the leisure centre. I was lazing in my living room. then heard a knock at the door. It was the postman. Had brought my PS2 from ebay. But this confused me. set me into panic. I thought it must be monday. as Ive never had a postal delivery on a sunday. I'm starting a course on monday. and there very strict. so if I had turned up in the afternoon. lots of bad things would happen to me. :/ But its ok. I suppose the posties are working overrtime. Or hes been playing my Crash Bandicoot till he got bored enough to actually deliver it. :/ The PS2 was quite cheap. I had recently got a PS1. But its temperamental. was thinking the controller was playing up. So the bid I put on the PS2 wasnt much more than a controller price. Plus the Ps2 plays dvds. so will be one less box to amalgamate into my entertainment system. The PS2 doesnt play my ps1s Grand turismo tho. maybes the disc needs cleaned. is ok in ps1. I walked thru the car park the other day. usually walk the other way. not so much sna that way. Someones flytipped a tv. I pushed it over. had phono sockets on the front. I went to collect it earlier today. stripped the tv video combi down. as is usual with these things. cash had been posted in the videos letter box. 60p I got out of it. I broke off the black transformer from the pcb. so no one can say I'm watching tv with out a license. If tvs broken in bits. I tried for ages to solder the phono sockets cable to my monitor. eventually got it. Played Sonic, then Columns, on my Sega. then plugged in my PS1. Played Grand Turismo, for a while.

Amazing what you can find.
I had an old bike that I wanted rid of, I tried to give it away on here and on retrobike but nobody took it. I tried to give it to a local bike recycling charity and they didn't want it. I didn't want to scrap it, so I rode it into town and left it lying against the bike railings in a quiet corner.
That was five weeks ago and the bloody thing is still there.

A few years ago, I got lifted by a rather nice policewoman. while I was wobbling about on a Chelsea Capitol shopper bike, while very drunk, in town. the cops gave me a lift back home. I locked my bike. but went in a day or so later. took my lock off. It floated about the town centre for a few weeks. horrible bike. Ive done some work on my christmas bike. but had a terrible cold for a week. I fitted a computer, and some lights. also sanded the rear wheels sidewall. hate that streaky black anodising. Tho I did the sanding after I took this photo. thats on the start of the bike path to Monifieth. theyve been resurfacing the path. think it was okish before. they should resurface my road, it goes from a car park to the supermarket. its falling to bits. Oh yeah. I went to monifieth yesterday. started snowing when coming back. seen 17mph on the speedo. I'm so out of condition. still a bit unwell

Oh yeah. I got some phono sockets to fit on my monitor, instead of the BNC sockets. I took the AV connector panel out of the monitor. then unsoldered the bnc connectors. went to bolt the phonos to the black plastic panel. they are thinner diameter. tried some washers on them. then thought I would melt some new holes in the panel. but my soldering iron isnt working anymore. grrrrrr. only used it about 4 times. will have to see if Ive got the receipt. thats not on.

My white bike. An Apollo folding bike. that I built up, a while ago. I had got a few wheels for it. It came with rusty chrome rims. I had got a 28 spoke kids mtb front wheel. It was black anodised. with the sidewalls that horrible streaky way. I had been putting off, sanding all the anodising off the rim. But Ive finally done it. wheels still on the front hub. I'll get the white bike out and swap its 3 speed hub into this rim.

I built the alloy rim onto my 3 speed hub. by taping the rim to the steel wheel and moving 4 spokes at a time over to it. also brillo padded them to be shinier. I looked out another front wheel. Its got a similar rim shape as that wheel. but is silver anodised, and is on an alloy hub with 36 spokes. I got it from ebay for a Pound or so. Its got a DB, Diamond back, sticker on it. Think its off a kids mtb. I sanded the streaky anodising off the rim sides. Brillo padded the spokes. I took the V brake pads from my blue raleigh Traveller. fitted them to white bike. there about twice the size of the pads that came with the bmx brakes I have on there. It stops better now. I fitted blue rubber V brake pads to blue bike. Its mega tricky fitting gimball washers to Strumley Archer chrome steel brakes. As the pad slots on them is a little bit too wide for the rounded washers to sit with out falling squint into the slot. I have got a set of Weinmman alloy sidepulls to fit to there. will try them to see if the pads are easier to fit. Ive polished up the weinmmans. might need a bit more work as there a bit old. Also got a pair of Leechi mtb alloy levers. as fitted to old raleigh mtbs. tho these had Muddy fox stickers on them. there up for polishing too. nearly finished getting all the black off of one of them. Just now I have the rear wheel out of the Raleigh. Its on the sink. Got a new 26 X 1 3/8" alloy rim taped to the chrome/rusty steel rim. Ive transferred over 12 of the spokes. will finish it later. Got a pair of rims. so will do the front wheel build too. My intentions are to have my Xmas bike as my main jet about bike. Blue bike as a shopping bike. As its got a good rack and bag. My white bike might be a bike to carry on the bus. As its a folder. tho not to compact. My silver mtbs don't feature to highly. My eagle suspension bike might be given away. Its got the stem seized in the forks, even tho the wedge moves, steel stem and forks. My tescos terror was going to get stripped for parts. I will fit the alloy V brakes to the xmas bike. I was browsing ebay. seen a pair of chopper/ape bars. put in a bid and got them cheap. So I was thinking of fitting them to the tescos bike. Make a japenese chopper style bike out of it. Wheres the thread that had pictures of them? might google to see some more. I did think of making a suicide shifter beside the seat. maybe mounted on the seat post and going out sideways. I don't have any gear levers. just twist grips. So there no use for modding. I did find a speed boats hand rail on the beach. about 10 feet of 19mm stainless steel tube with some brackets on it. might see If I can make that into a lever.

I got the ape bars from the post office. they are a bit rough. the centre isnt a bulge. but other metal wrapped round. bit of corrosion there. but on the whole. bars brillo padded up nice. I got new cotterpins for white bike. As one had a stripped thead. Cranks are rock solid now. no slop. I got my white bike ready to go to town. yesterday evening I noticed that the front tube was soft. so pumped it up. stayed up ok. would have swapped for another tyre and tube. I went to train station and got a free train to town. then later I went upto a charity shop. I had seen a display cabinet in there. marked £11. wanting it for my books and dvds. took white bike to carry it. stand in for a sack barrow. but trying to get along the road was terribly slow. had about an inch of ground clearance. so was always scraping. Took 30 minutes or more to get to a freinds place. but then, there people carrier was away at garage. I got help to put the unit on top of bars and seat. but the unit was sliding about. so gave up. left unit there. till there people carrier is fixed. they are coming out here next week. so wont cost them money to get here.

the cabinet was marked at £11. but was a 40% off sale. so got it for £6.
I had been working on my blue bike. I had got new alloy rims from ebay. think it was £16 posted. So cleaned up the spokes and hub and tranfered them over. 1 spoke was broken. so asked at the bike shop in town. he looked thru his boxes. he was going to sell me a 276mm spoke. even tho I asked for 278mm. 2mm not much. but spoke threads not that long. and nipples are short. Support your LBS. I don't think so. I had a spoke set from a dynohub wheel, that was originally on that bike. so cleaned up one of those. Alloy wheel looks nice. hope the breaking is miles better than the scary chrome steel rim

since I gave up my furniture moving. I could bike home. main path is about 7miles. but the grassy seafront route is a bit shorter. so went that way. there was some waterlogged bits. so dodged them. I got to the village before my town. put my bike down to see a sculpture. broke the top off my computer. :/ it still works. will glue it. then out on the tarmac bike path. bike making a noise. stupid rear tyre had flatted. had to wal a mile home

think they were diacompe time trial bar end levers. from ebay for about £3, I think
I worked on my bikes. I put another patch on the white bikes tube. tried to true up a wrecked bmx rear wheel. I had found a broken led light on the train. it had a battery terminal, that was missing in the lights I had got from Aldi. I could take the lights back. bus fares £6....lights were £5. so no point. I fitted the now working light to xmas bike. it had the front one on allready

I was sent upto the nearby scrapyard to get steel to make a fence for a garden I'm building at the volunteers centre. But there wasnt much stuff there. I did see some bike bits. Nothing appealing. I would like a Twenty, Mixte or racer. Nope. But when I was going back to the office with the helmet. I saw a blue BMX frame on a box. A Mark 1 Raleigh Mag burner. No mags tho. Its got CW freestyler bars, Diacompe levers and front brake. Hollow stem bolt in the SR stem. Put it on the weighscale. 9kg. So got it. got a few 20" alloys at home. will build it up. Probably get sold on quickly. If anyones interested.

I stripped out the Burner. I didnt oil it first. but it all came apart easily. the special size headset is worn, with bits chipped off the top cone. My Easter bikes a ladies Raleigh mtb, with the special headset. when I get it. will probably strip it out. The Burners BB is worn too. A regular one peice crank with push in cups. got a spare set. The paint looked ok when I got it. But on closer inspection. its brush painted. a very similar blue to original. as the original colours showing thru. grrr I'm now doing voluntary work at a bike shop. I was there on friday. Nothing much to do. there was a nasty mtb on display, with a flat. theyve fixed it a couple of times. so they tried again. he said its got a tight tyre. so he got the wheel up on the desk, with crummy plastic tyre levers. getting nowhere. I said Id do it. just rolled the tyre bead about a bit. got it off, with no tyre lever. It had a score on the valve stem of the tube he had fitted a few days ago. so his fault for catching it on the valve hole. I was looking thru the spares catalogue. I seen jars of ball bearings for £2.60. about a thousand in a jar, depends on bearing size. Ive been wanting a quantity of bearings to replace all the bearings on my bikes. Ive looked thru ebay. cant find them in quantity. just a pack of 20 or so for a wheel hub for a couple of quid. I did find a bearing place in Dundee. but it looked shut. had a sign pointing customers to a wooden ladder to the roof. I'll have to look thru the yellow pages. see if theres places that'll sell to the public

Ive been to the scrapyard a couple of times since. I got a mountain bike frame and parts. Silverfox SFX. Its a full suspension Y frame bike. Alloy frame and swingarm. Disc front brake, v brake on the swoopy swing arm. Its got 7 speed rapid fire. I got a Quando hubbed front disc wheel. Also got a pair of forks, bar and stem, with Acera 7 speed rapidfire levers. I'm wanting a better front end on my Xmas bike. Will have to get an aheadset to fit it. Was 19kg. But the man magnet tested the silverfox. So said it was half alloy and half steel. Charged me £10 for the lot. The silverfox is straight. good condition. Theres rust on the bars and stem. also on the cranks. The bb lockring was damaged. they were trying to get the cranks off, as bolts were hanging out. I got the cranks out with the ghetto method of thumping them at the inside, where axle goes into them. I didnt hame a hammer and chisel. so used a claw hammer hitting a Pin hammer. Came off easily. I managed to get the lockring hammered flat enough to go on.
