Here's what i'm dealing with I'm 90% certain there should only be 1 pump here. The rear one doesnt work anyway. There is only a single pipe going to the fuel tank which confirms to me that there should only be 1 pump On top of the tank is the pickup tubes, one drops lower for a reserve. This is switched over via a dashboard switch which activates the solenoid you can see here which allows the one pump to pull from either pipe. It's a mess and i cant wait to rip it out, sob a little, weld a bit, then replace it all as it should be. Hopefully that solenoid still works or can be teased back into life. If not i'll be swapping the feed to the reserve feed and sacking the dashswitch off

To be fair to the PO there are many different pump setups and '62 seems to be an odd year and looking at it, the dual pumps were already there.
Eitherway, its all coming out, the corner the pumps in need some fettling with the blue glue anyways as the attempt at a repair there is comical at best!

Soooooooooo,
I've kinda half sussed my fueling issue out.
The main one - and its a big un - is that cars run on fuel. When there's is none in the tank, they don't run!
Turns out the fuel gauge is either faulty, or looking at the state of the wiring, its grounded out and showing a nice healthy amount on the gauge whereas there isn't a nice healthy amount in the tank.
The second issue it the mess of fuel pumps I seem to have. As far as I can work out this '62 model came with a single fuel pump and used a tank mounted solenoid to switch betwix the norm and reserve pickups.
I appear to have one working pump fitted and pulling from the normal pickup and a non working pump fitted, also pulling from the normal pickup and a whole host of random pipes and t-pieces to make this non functioning system even more non functioning!
Plans are to pull out both pumps and make a mount for the single pump as per original. Then i'll pull the solenoid and pickups from the tank and test if it is working or not. If it is, happy days, if it isn't then i shall be sacking the solenoid off and plumbing in the 'reserve' pickup so i can utilize all of the fuel in the tank...

Mr Rich, Have you considered pulling the top of the headboard in to match the body profile? In my mind it would look a little more appealing Have a cracking paint mock-up

Looking back at some fb post in the owners club and also some receipts it looks like there has been a fuel issue. The pump has been replaced I think, so i'm guessing the tank is full of wibblepoo :/

Quick little update, very dull, but I like to look back at what I've done. Last night I gave the engine a good once over, making sure everything was set just right. I started off in here to set the valve clearances, well, half of them. The engine has a strange setup, the inlet valves are on top as per usual but the exhaust valves are angled down the side of the cylinders with the pistons having a weird triangular shape. Next up I set the points gap and the timing, everything seemed fine. I then noticed the wsm mentioned altering the Octane selector on the dizzy, wtf is that? Bit of digging around and it transpires the advance/retard had a knob on it to do fine adjustments for different fuel levels. This was well out, almost 2cm infact. I reset this to spec then had to set the timing again. Next up was the carb and here's where the night took a downturn. I decided to set it back to factory spec and work from there. It was here i noticed that the mixture screw was seized and whilst i was there I noticed the top of the float bowl was loose and also the glass filter bowl has a cm of sediment in it. I cleaned it out and turned the ignition on, expecting the tiny bowl to fill in seconds, instead it took about a minute to fill sporadically squirting 5mm of fuel in every 3-5 seconds. This isn't right, I read that the pump should fill a pint glass in 30-60 seconds. I believe I've found the issue with the lumpy running. If I make sure the float bowl is full she'll run like clockwork for 30 odd seconds before returning to running rough, so it makes sense. I was cold by now, a tennis shoe isn't a good garage show in-case you're wondering, so I went indoors. Hopefully i'll be back out tonight to figure out why the pump is so weak and also to remove the carb for a rebuild. I can't wait to get the engine up to scratch, then the fun can start with the altitude adjustments That is all...

Don't 200tdi engines bolt straight to these gearboxes?....... Maybe with a big turbo and straight through pipe Tom Apparently so, but I'd rather chew off my own testicles than own a diesel I need to empty the 9 litres of oil ready to drop the sump to check the oil strainer, the oil is very black and pretty thick so I'm hoping this is the cause of my flickering oil pressure light. She uses 9 litres as the engine oil is shared with the gearbox and the overdrive, so I'm guessing it gets some abuse really

She's not to bad, wings are pretty grotty.
I'll be spending a lot of time on the engine first I think, needs a complete going through tuning wise and i'm not happy with the oil pressure, I read that over the years the mesh strainer can block so I guess my first port of call is to whip the sump off!

List as it stands, will be added to as I find more
Tappets (both sets, it's a I over e engine) need adjusting badly
Lazy starting, probably needs a few new earth straps, hopefully
A whole host of interior wiring, dash lights etc etc
Front wings are grotty at the sill area and around the light area, repair panels are available, as are glass wings
Fit included repair panel for rear valance
Feed seats and repair drivers as it's cracked
Lower that curse word, a lot...
Some sort of exhaust, release some straight 6 noise

I love it Liam mate, hope you feel the same about the Herald.
I'm in the process of writing a - long - list of things to do over winter. Least that's what I'm telling the missus, I'm mainly sitting in the back for hours, thinking I need a cigar and taking in the joy of it...

Tomorrow I pick up my new car A 1962 Rover 100 I've hankered after one of these for years now but have never had the means or wrong place wrong time sort of situations. I've finally got my hands on one, straight swap for my Triumph Herald, which as awesome as it is, I've just never got on with. Anyways, have some pics. No doubt more to follow tomorrow Plans are maybe an English Pro-Touring look. Low on 18" reps of a classic wheel

I think as Dez mentioned, The chassis seems to hang pretty low under the car, especially around the front end. To get one low low it would need channeling, which i imagine isnt the easiest of jobs If you look at this pic, the chassis at the front seems to hand down below the centre line of the wheels, so major work to get them down
