Looks like those of you in the some areas of the south won’t have to worry about soon, as you won’t be allowed to wash it anyway. I’ll do it at work as a retail job then 😂 I don’t particularly enjoy washing cars, despite having the aforementioned full valeting facilities available to me. But I do try to keep the cars clean because I don’t like them to be overly dirty.

When we phoned the garage about getting it in for an inspection and potentially an MOT, he said that it doesn't need the speedo to work for it to pass. I agree it's odd, and I'm confused by the screenshot but that's what the guy from the garage said The screenshots are from the government testing manual. If they are fine passing it then winner. Realistically given the car isn’t road tested, it’s unlikely it would even be spotted. When I say all the information is in the screen shot. There is no more info given, you can read the manual yourself, just Google MOT Test manual and use the gov.uk linked one. That’s the one.

how will they know if the speedo works or not though, they never drive the car. I have never heard of a car actually failing an MOT on the speedometer not working. All the info is in the screen shot, that’s from the test manual. Your guess is as good as mine

Got a pic? Manual or auto? Shouldn't need speedo working to pass MOT, I don't think they test it. Worth replacing speedo if you can find a cheap one. 23K sounds pretty amazing. I have owned probably 4 or 5 of these, and more of the previous models. Speedo has to ‘obviously not be inoperative’

That was my thinking too Rich. I am not aware of ever losing keys, but it happens and then I would have a pile of fiberglass and bits, worth nothing to push around the driveway. Have a ring round some key people and see if the key is clonable. Some Mazda keys of the era aren’t but I can’t tell you which, other Than I know the DW Demio ones aren’t apparently. That’ll be the best cost effective way of doing it that retains the IMMO feature.

Your options: Have a key cloned by a key specialist. Best option for security.
Have the IMMO removed by an ECU specialist. Best option for ‘can’t ever have IMMO issues again’
Have the key cable tied under the dash and have uncoded blanks made by.. ok. Best for cost, worst for being easily stolen.

Watching with interest as I do like a French estate and will need to consider a replacement for my old Fiat sooner or later. What's it like size wise with the back seats folded down, as being a drummer it's the first question in car buying for me! Moderately roomy, you can also unclip and remove the seat squabs once folded up iirc for an extra few inches of space.

Our definitely didn't have ABS! It had 'keep fit' windy windows, manually adjustable wing mirrors etc. The higher spec versions like yours with the bigger wheels look much more like the concept car sketch. Will keep tuned in to see how you get on 👍 It was an initial happy accident but they do look so right.

We had a very basic 1.1 XL for about 6 years and very useful it was too - many a tip run loaded up to the roof and achieved significant 'lows' collecting all the tiles for our bathroom. Only sold it because we needed air con and Isofix! They have a brake bias valve on the passenger side which can seize up so keep it squirted with WD40 👍 I don’t think mine does, ABS models wouldn’t need it. In theory. I wouldn’t be hugely surprised to find PSA continued to fit them anyway 😂

I always liked these, I wanted to swap in a 206GTI drive line into one. Would be a right hoot with 206gti 180 drivetrain for sure. Make a true Sport Wagon of its namesake.

I went all boring and bought a modern* car. I had decided that I wanted something newer and slightly bigger than the Mazda 121, but it had be comfortable enough to be worth driving, moderately frugal but intrinsically as mechanically sophisticated as a plimsol. So I bought a 1.4 SOHC 206SW Verve. *Subjective as 2006 was a long time ago now. I specifically wanted as late a model as I could, and ideally a Verve and it had to be a TU. The Verve is probably the 'nicest' 1.4 trim level, getting sporty (ish) seats, air conditioning, 6 speaker stereo, Sport front bumper with fog lamps and privacy glass. Oh, and the aluminium 'Racing' fuel cap. That was a big deal. It's also ULEZ compliant (for now I'm sure) First thing to do was throw a big service at it. Seller assured me he had changed the oil but to what I do not know and these take 5-40 Fully synth apparently, but the bigger issue was the cambelt. Just in time methinks. One full service/Cam belt and water pump(for obvious reasons)/Crank sensor (because)/Temperature sensor (again because)/Ignition coil (was the wrong one fitted)/Thermostat (because)/radiator hoses (gone soft) and it was ready to drive. Or was it. Those 14" wheels are gopping. Bargain of the century. Had done a deal with KFW on some wheels, but then these (the same as what our Kev had) came up round the corner WITH good tyres for £80. EIGHTY pounds. No brainer. Swift appologies to Kev and we were on our way to coolsville. Again, Sorry kevfromwales Next big thing will be some small lows as it rides too high up front but that will be dealt with in time. I did some Frenchification. Hello Yellow headlamps/sidelamps/foglamps. And last but not least, freebie ridiculous roof box so I can go on holiday with the dog/toddler/pushchair/travel cot etc. Its a genuine Renault one. Don't tell it. It'll get upset.

Graffiti paint would look better. I know bedliner has a purpose and it’s great for off-roaders etc but anything that isn’t one of those painted with it always looks like a ‘last hurrah’ before it gets scrapped. It’s the tetrashutz finish for me. Just looks so half assed on cars. Sorry to be negative. Fun to see another caravan being played with though, crack on and do your thing None taken mate, I know it's "marmite" but I think I can pull this one off 😎 I look forward to seeing the end result, no matter what you paint it with I’ll say that much

Since nobody else is responding so far: I'm in, even bookmarked this, as I'm curious how this will turnout after that pic of someone preparing for a paintjob! Why don't You cut out the bottom of that trunk and put it onto some wooden box, so the trunk is high enough for the gas bottle. So it should not be that noticeable, that You had to enlarge the height? I've cut the hinges off so the lid can be removed as one piece then I'm going to extended the sides of the box. Paint is going to be a 2 tone jobby using raptor Graffiti paint would look better. It’ll be in the ‘box. Usually something of this age will usually have a sump and it’ll be in there like the oil strainer pickup. I was so glad Hyundai decided to fit an actual spin on filter on the auto box on my XG30. Hope you get the problem sorted. Have you had a code read done on the TCU? No code read as yet, I need to get it to a local specialist I think I would be surprised if the TCU couldn't be read with any OBD scanner that has specific protocols. Might be worth doing before involving transmission specialists.

Does the box have a filter you can change? Not one that I can find ? Unless it’s inside the box It’ll be in the ‘box.
