I like the tool box, love to have one. You can get replica ones made out of fibreglass. But they seem to be a lot of money for what they are. I have thought about getting an old metal amo box and cutting & welding it to fit. The DDR plate looks spot on. I have no idea what country mine came from originally, would love to find out. What’s next on the list of mods?

One thing that might be worth trying, is getting to know some of the Trabant owners in the area. As Trabi’s do go rusty and there’s quite a lot of owners that are good at rebuilding them.

I might be a bit strange, but I like it with out the floor of the pickup bed. It makes it seem more like a race car. Plus less weight on the back makes cornering more interesting.

Great story Ant. I have a place on the other side of the lake at Balatonmáriafürdő. We are out there quite a bit during summer. There is a guy in the village that has a very tidy 2cv in orange with a clear roll top roof. I haven’t seen many 2cv’s out there. The Renault 4 seems to have been a more popular choice.

That front box is the important one as it’s an expansion pipe. The smallest of adjustments to it can have a huge affect on the running of the engine.

One of the main causes of running problems with the Trabi carb,is the float level not at the correct height. They are very sensitive and the slightest difference in height could make it run like c**p. The tick over has to be set with the lights on. Looking good so far, be interesting to see what other plans you have for the Trabi.

Very nice. The best bit of advice I can give is to bin the factory carb. They are temperamental and the latter fuel saver carburetor is even worse. Switch to a Mikuni and the difference is like night and day. A lot smoother and a bit more power. Combine it with a good exhaust and it will go quite well. The camber kit is a good idea, I have fited one to the back end on mine and has made cornering a lot more safer. I can now go around a roundabout on four wheels instead of three. If you can convert the ignition system to a later electronic unit it will also help make it a lot more reliable for daily use. If you need any advice feel free to ask and I will see if I can help.

I had a Suzuki sj410 that was basically a scraper,but I got it back on the road with some homemade mods. And it was unstoppable off road. In fact it was so good that most of the time I just used 2 wheel drive to make it more interesting.

I think if they just done the stripes and a slight drop + banded wheels, and left the rest off the bodywork it could have been spot on. But for me it just doesn’t work as it stands at the moment. If the owner did it and got a kick out of driving it then good on them. But as it’s on eBay I have a sneaking suspicion that they have dragged it out of a garage where it’s been abandoned for years. Given it a quick fake patina makeover so they can make a quick buck.

I appreciate it was involved in a bomb blast, but where have the engine block and complete rotating hub parts gone The blast would have removed the wheels, especially the front left hand side as you look at it. Judging by the way the pressure wave has deformed the front and then passed over the rest. The motor would have just fell out as they tried to move the car.
