i'm quite excited about the prospect of restoring a 1968 vintage Ford MK3. it has been in a museum for the past 30 years so probably most of you will have seen it already as it was at Beulieu for most of its life it has 6,400 miles on the clock. it'll be quite a learning curve and quite a high profile restoration. the owner is quite excited as well i'll take pictures tomorrow. oh, and it has GT on the steering wheel and it is 40 inches high

iv'e sat in it already and it's a hell of a squeeze compared to the Mk1 ex Ford France GT40 we look after. the Mk3's have a centre gear change where as the others have the gear change by the drivers door. the MK1 e have is a lovely car to drive and totally blew me away on how easy and user friendly it is

Wow, that's a project to not spill the spanners on... Recommisioning? What does that entail on something like that, fuel lines? Tyres? Pads? Full strip down?

this is the actual car. it was modified in the 70's with the alloy wheels, flared arches and painted white with the blue stripe there were only 7 MK3 GT40s built so it is quite a rare version. amazingly the original wheels, spinners, exhaust system and boot compartment still survive and will be reunited with the car as well as deflaring the bodywork and repainting it the original burgundy colour. it will be totally stripped so everything rubber and all bearings replaced and basically everything overhauled. the interior will only need cleaning and many other cosmetic parts will not be and not need restoring. these MK3's were only ever destined to be road cars hence the bumper overriders and larger opening side windows and door locks. the early cars have no way to lock the doors it's going to be worth somewhere in the region of £2million when back on the road.

the most valuable car iv'e driven is probably around £5million most of the historic Jaguars we look after are around the £2million area. iv'e squeezed through Battle taking them for an MOT pushing through the tightest gaps. open roads are fun though

Here's a photo I took of it on the morning of the Autojumble last year (had a scoot around inside the museum before they'd opened the gates up.) Is that an Royale in the background of that show (Retromobile?) photo?

Woah I remember seeing a dark blue GT40 at Beulieu when I was a schoolboy back in the late 70's. From that day until now it is still my most favorite car of all time (followed closely by the Miura) What a fabulous car to get your teeth into

I want one. One day I hope to be able to afford a replica of a Mk1. Seth - I'm not sure. The Royale's bonnet is longer and the screen/roofline much squarer IIRC - but I can't tell you what it is. I do wonder if the red open car is a Kurtis Kraft though. D+O - I think Bozwell is working on it for the owner: the owner is quite excited as well

The Royale's bonnet is longer and the screen/roofline much squarer IIRC - but I can't tell you what it is. That will be the Binder coupe de ville that you're thinking of (which started life as the Esders roadster - a replica of that is in the Schlumpf collection). The one above is the Coupe Napoleon (or replica of, as Seth points out).

In fact with further looking, it is that replica. That will be the Binder coupe de ville that you're thinking of (which started life as the Esders roadster - a replica of that is in the Schlumpf collection). The one above is the Coupe Napoleon (or replica of, as Seth points out). I may have been looking at the wrong Bugatti (the Type 46, not the Type 41)... The red car is a 1948 Alfa Romeo 6C Nardi Danese ex Mille Miglia and Targa Florio. Indeed it is - it was the grille that got me.
