Go round via Heathrow...but if your going to Sutton it might be better (and I always do) to get off at the A3 and come in that way rather than all the way round to the A217 As others have already said, definitely go around the M25, day or night. North and South Circulars are always clogged during daytime, and inside the M25, the A24 is also a pretty slow road at the best of times, so better avoided. Depending on which side of Sutton, it might be worth going in on the A217, which isn't a bad road, or as per above, the A3, which is by far the quickest road into SW London.

I'd take the 25 as I've already wasted too much of my life on the North/South circular and you'll see some planes This. Unless it's very very early in the morning I'd recommend taking the M25. 10 years ago I'd have said go through London but I've been caught out way too many times in recent years to risk doing it again.

I'd take the 25, as others have said. Driving in London is not fun. Imagine the worst/most selfish/inconsiderate/clueless drivers, all fighting for the same square foot of tarmac.
Actually, the M25 is not much better.

Well, as it happens, I spurned the M25, and the circulars and went straight through the centre of town ;D Car drivers are less bother when they can't see over your front grille I just figured this was probably my last chance to drive the truck through London (seeing as it's not 2012 LEZ friendly, and I live 300 miles away....) I'm home, with the capri and trailer safely stashed at the yard. I'll try and get pictures and stuff sorted tomorrow, too tired right now.

I like driving in London, have worked doing pest control and courier work in the city, i love all the buildings and things to look at and as i usually have something thats already scruffy and dented i don't get pushed around by the other traffic, I still wont go through if i just need to get to the other side though.
Thats probably an effect of living so close though, I'm less of a "tourist"and often pop up town for drinks or to meet mates or whatever.
One thing i used to hate when i drove nationwide was the fact you could do 200 miles in three hours and then it would take you another 3 hours to do 50 miles on the M25, traffic down here is horrendous usually compared to oop north.

I like driving in London... Me too. There's no point getting annoyed and uptight with the actions of other drivers. Just let them get on with it and roll your way through. You're quite likely to catch anyone back up at the next lights anyway. The speed with which you try and drive will not affect the speed of your journey as there are simply too many other factors.

I've had the good furtune (cough) to have been handed a construction site in Lewisham. We're based in Bristol and I live in Cornwall. So spend 5 hours getting to the M25 and then 2 hours getting into London. Imagine my delight! I didn't find it too bad in the Hilux. People just stayed out of the way. Now I'm in another normal boring car it's much more difficult as people just drive at you. I've decided the best method of retaliation is play it cool, turn up the toones, smoke some fags and watch the ladies walk by still a pain though. Respect to the Wagon drivers though. I've got a guy coming to pick up a 45t 22m Long Reach excavator on a trailer at 2pm on a Tuesday. Can't wait to see how that goes! I'll be blocking the road for an hour or two so stay away from Lewisham on Tuesday

I used to work for a heavy haulage company as driver mate, ours was the biiiiig trailer so we had the real monster loads, truck and trailer was rated to carry over 200t and we could pull heavier stuff on bogies. We had to deliver a crane up to Embankment once, they wanted to lift one of the pumps up out of a pumping station, even with a police escort and starting at midnight we still blocked the embankment off until 11am, caterpillar tracks on the crane were hanging about 2ft over the edges of the trailer on both sides, i was steering the trailer from the rear with a bullhorn to shout at people who were standing to close on the path.

heh, I got to a bit of road in wimbledon that was half blocked by a scaffolding lorry unloading - there was a bus waiting at the other end so naturally I stopped and flashed it through cos no-one else had. Suddenly everyone behind me decided to test the horn Anyway, we had a look at the car today.

My drive to the w/shop entails driving down the 'North-West Passage'; Euston Road, Marylebone Road, Westway out to the A40 proper If I leave after 8am on a weekday I might as well not bother, but at early morn/weekends it's a nice little cruise. That and people are somehow respectul/bemused at the sight of a BMW E21 with roof bars and a ladder/lumber/engine block on the roof...
