Those who read the forum regularly will know of my purchase of a type 1 DAF 44. A little bit of digging has confirmed that it may well be the only rhd model left. Anyway it was picked up this morning and trailered to its new home in Chelmsford. Due to having 4 flat tyres (kids) it was not going to push easily of the trailer so attempts where made to start her. No go she wont even try and turn over, but engine turns by hand. I hope its just a knackered battery although being 6v will be a pain. Other than that I'm very happy. A bit of surface rust here and there and a couple of bent or missing bumper irons. When I get the pics up I will post them here. Excited is not the word!! Paul

Well there certainly isn't another one known about in the UK and as these where only sold in RHD to the UK it stands to reason that it may be the last.
Suprising skoda exactly the same right down to the colour

Have some pics, she is a little worse for wear and will need a bit of tidying before paint thankfully though she is nice and solid that rear tyre is what all of them where like when she arrived, 3 where donated to enable her to roll The interior is properly good and I just love it Under the bonnet all looks straight, a bit grubby but all servicable Now we just need her to start Paul

Well there certainly isn't another one known about in the UK Are you sure about this? When you say 'known' - who are you referring to? Like Matt, I also have a feeling your info might be wrong and that there might, in fact, be twice as many of these than you thought/were told.

Club records have no knowledge of another and having spoken around DAF circles no one seems to know of another. There weren't many type 1s made in the first place 67-69 after that comes the type 2. Different interior, badging and electrics. The easiest way to identify a type 1 is the script badge on bonnet and boot combined with a single stripe across the grill. With a 44 emblem. Later cars use a type face and just say DAF on the grill. With nowt on the bonnet

Very special indeed! It looks to be an Eindhoven built 44 as well, instead of being built in Born. You can tell from the slightly smaller headlights and the bootlock, which should just be a press-down lock and shouldn't feature a little handle. Only the very early 44s were Eindhoven models, they're very rare even in Holland. You've bagged yourself something lovely to enjoy this summer! I hope you get to drive it soon.

Yep its a type 1 and an early one of those. This car is 1967 so first year of manufacter. Yep no little handle on the boot and small headlights.

That interior is just fab. I see it's 3-stud. Same as any of the Renaults or Citroens of lore?

PCD unique to DAF not sure what it is though just that renualts and citroens are different. It has motly selection of daf wheels on it at the moment. Front wheels are DAF 33 and are 135 by 13inch Rear passenger is original mk1/2 wheel 135 by 14inch and comes with a chrome cap like the ones on the promo car earlier in the thread. The other rear looks to be the same as my mk3 same size different pressing. I quite like the standard wheels. Although I'm not sure whether to leave caps off or put them on. Its certianly not getting 33 wheels as they are a nightmare to balance as have no centre bore. I'm also wandering whether white walls would work then of course theres finding them in an appropriate size. Most DAFs run 145 80/r14 now as 135 are just impossible to get. Luckily the 145s also fit a morris minor so should be around for a few years yet edit to add:: a pic of what I hope sophie will look like by august. Thats the deadline ive set for having her finished

Seems like a couple of people might know more than they are letting on Yeah I reckon they've seen the perenial DAF horder who lives in Bristol mk2 which looks very very similar to a mk1. But its all in the subtle differences. Like 2 bonnet catchs, and door locks. Of course I would be delighted to be proved wrong anyway.

I don't think it needs to be the last one to be cool...I hope we aren't going to let claims and counter-claims get in the way of admiring a lovely lil' car!
I can't help but notice that the restored one you've shown doesn't have banded steels on? I hope yours will. ;D

Minis are cool and there's no chance of there only being one of those left anytime soon I don't think the whitewalls would suit on a white car Paul unless the wheels were red. if the wheels were banded AND red I think you would achieve instant Hero status.
